I have been lucky so far with my short trips to the lake with no spare trailer tire. I need to get one, especially for my 5 hr drive to Lake Amistad coming up in June and I was curious what you all have done to mount/haul your trailer spare? I am thinking about something like this to mount a spare to the trailer. Thoughts?

I say go to a welder or machine shop, have them cut you a piece of steel and 90 the ends. Weld on some studs. Paint it to match your trailer. Bolt that to the trailer. Run it underneath your bow so that your spare is hidden. Like this.
Something I'll add, is if your tires are 3 years old or more, go ahead and save yourself some headache. Replace the suckers. I've learned that tires, trailer tires in particular, blow almost religiously once you hit 3 years. That's all their supposed to last, and sure enough that's how it's always worked out for me. Save your fenders!Last edited by Tanner; 05-15-2009, 11:30 PM.Being a major OU fan and a staunch conservative.... I am perpetually vexed w/ the conundrum of who to hate more. I've been trying to figure out the spare tire dilemma also. I hate the thought of putting the tire in the boat for travel like the previous owner did. I think Tanner's idea it the way I'm going to go. My SLM Comp sits so low on the trailer I can not use a side mount tire mount. I could probably whip up a mount like that in 30 minutes or so, and have it welded on within an hour. My trailer needs a touchup paint job anyhow. The luck is gone, the brain is shot, but the liquor we still got.

That is a great idea, now I know what my summer project is for the boat"I feel sorry for people that don't drink, when they wake up in the morning, that's as good as they're gonna feel all day" - Frank Sinatra

thanks for the feedback guys. I am going to run over the West marine and check out what they have in stock, there is one really close to my office. I will also talk to the Magnum guys about spares.
Tanner, you got me nervous on the trailer tires now, I have the originals that came with the boat in 2004. They look like they are in great shape, they have very little mileage on them. Hmmm...
