Explain this...

Today I go to pick up my boat, and after getting jerked around by the service department(typical of my dealer), I found out that I can't pick it up because when you start to take off the fuel pressure drops to under 1 and seems like it wants to die. My first though was fuel pump and the tech thought that or fuel regulator. The boat has sat in storage all winter without moving are being started. I had no problems last summer at all. Tell me how , if it is the fuel pump, it can go bad by sitting in storage???

What about your fuel filter? Have you changed it? After sitting all winter, if someone forgot to put in some stabil, it could be pretty clogged up. It's happened b4!

How old and what model boat?
Is fuel getting thru the fuel tank anti-siphon valve?

Its an 06 22v. I'm out of warranty on the engine, which made my day.

***edit, the tread 3 problems helps. My engine is a 340 gm vortec

One possibility is the fuel pressure regulator. I don't have the same engine as you, but on mine it's got a diaphragm that's some type of rubber material. Apparently, this material doesn't like ethanol additives. I'm not sure what part of the country you're in, but some states mandate more than others. The problem is exacerbated by fuel sitting for a while. My engine's a Mercruiser Tournament Ski Mag. Newer engines supposedly deal with this better. My dealer was surprised mine lasted as long as it did. On my boat, there was an alarm when the fuel pressure started to drop. I had mine replaced before it got too bad.

Just a possibility...maybe SPBFAN can chime in on this.

I have a 2002 21v with the 315hp towsports, my fuel pump went bad. I also changed the inline filter coming from the tank, it was very clogged.

I had a similar thing happen to me last year. Boat was fine when it was stored at the end of the previous season. I get it out and fire it up, try to take off and the boat lugs back down to an idle. I took it in and they found a loose fuel pump ground wire..go figure! Same engine as you as well.

I had to change my high pressure fuel pump last year because of similar symptoms

Yes. Your fuel pump can go bad while sitting during the off season. Some fuels today have a very short shelf life. I've seen gaskets and o rings disolve within a season. Your best bet is to run stabil thru the system and drain the fuel system before storage.
