    Best Anchors

I am going to need a new anchor before lake season. I was wondering what you guys were using and what you think are the best all around anchor?

    Thanks,
    Ben

    Depends on the bottom

A lot depends on what is on the bottom of the water you are planning to use.

I use a mushroom anchor on about 100 feet of rope. That is good for anchoring in soft river bottom up to about 30 feet in depth. The anchor is not large nor heavy and will not hold in high winds. But in winds up to about 10 MPH it works fine for holding my boat.

Hands down the best anchor is a box anchor. Great in all lake bottoms. It folds flat so storage is not a problem. With that anchor, the bungee tie-off rope and a built in hammer spike, you are set for life!

I've been using a CHENE anchor. That and 100' of rope seems to work fine. It sets real easy and the design makes it easy to retreave.

I use a fluke anchor and it works well, but only if you attach about 6' of chain.

I'd rather have a box anchor because it does not require the chain.

Does anyone know where to get a better deal on a box anchor? I looked it up on the manufacturer's site and saw a quote near 120 bucks. I have heard multiple times that the box anchor is the best.
                  Be excellent to one another.

That is cool, I've never seen an anchor like that. I wonder how hard it would be to make one.

That is a really cool anchor. I wish I had known about that before I purchased this one.

This works well and does perform like they advertise but the storage is a little cumbersome. We got the the 9 pound model.

We spent a lot of time at the box anchor people's booth at the boat show. We liked the way it collapses with the pull of a single pin - but I'm still skeptical. The only time we anchor for an extended period is when we camp at Lake Powell for a week. We see some pretty wicked storms and many times boats get loose. Has anyone tried one of these in sand for an extended period? Has the boat ever ridden out a storm when anchored?
