Does any one tow with a Cummings 6 speed Manual

I am Looking at an 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4 SLT w/ 6speed manual but I wanted to know how the manual tows compared to an automatic. I ask this becuase I REALLY want a sunroof and as far as I know its not an option on the Dodge. Its is an option on the Chevy and Ford but good luck finding one with a manual in it. Will just wanted to know what you'll think.

I don't tow with one but I've towed with my buddy's 4 speed auto and it's great. If you don't mind rowing the gears it will tow your boat without a problem. The Dodge auto is the weakest point of the truck, you may want to check a diesel forum to see if the manual is more reliable.

I have an 04.5 Cummins RAM and my only 2 regrets are that I didn't get it with a manual trans and I didn't get a dually. I have yet to have a problem with the auto, but if you go to the diesel forums like evil suggested you will find plenty of folks who have...

I have a couple friends who tow with the manual, and they swear by them. I don't know how serious you plan to get, but the manual is also better suited to things like exhaust brakes and performance chips.

I gotta say I share your feelings on the sunroof. I use this option soooo much. ESPECIALLY at the lake, and at night. It's so nice to have. Invoice pricing is around $650, and the $500 return at re-sale makes it one of the few items that doesn't lose much value.

If Dodge doesn't offer one... look at Webasto. They manufacturer about 98% of the OEM sunroofs on the market. Including Chevy and fords, and their aftermarket roofs are that much nicer. Just ask around and get referals for an installer though. Like stereo's, Install is everything! It's not a hard job, but it's def. easy to F up horribly!!!

An aftermarket unit will run you between $900-$1100

          The best there is

          Crazy
The Cummins with a 6-speed is the best towing diesel out there period! I own an auto dealership so I've tried them all and it is the best hands down. Hard to find truck though so if you've got one found that is a good deal I would recommend that you jump on it - sunroof or not! Post some pics when you get the boat hooked up to it.

Ok so here is a new twist. Let me know what you think would be the best way to go..Have a maunal installed in a Chevy/Ford OR have a sunroof installed in a Dodge??

Putting a manual trans in an automatic truck is going to be very spendy and in my opinion will hurt the value of the truck, there are some stick duramaxes out there but are few and far between and you wont see one with a sunroof and a stick, putting a sunroof in a dodge will up the value. I had a 2007 duramax with an automatic and it pulled everything with ease.

You don't wanna replace the allison w/ a manual! That's like putting a Chev. 4.3L V6 in a ferrari enzo.

The allison is arguably the best automatic tranny for towing on the market. The majority of the dodge guys will even tell you they'd prefer to have the allison mated up w/ their cummins motors.

They're all good. Everybody has the brand their partial too. I'm partial to the max/alli combo myself. The cummins speaks for itself, and the old 7.3's would run forever. If you could find a decent 6.0L PS, then it was a good motor too.... but they were so hit and miss. So like I said.... it's personal brand preference. Each is gonna pull your boat w/ ease, and be very reliable.

I have an 07 mega cab with the 6 speed manual. It is the best truck I have had. I have had all of the big three trucks in crew cab form. I like the Dodge Cummins 6 speed best of all. They all have been modded the same and have all been great trucks, but I love choosing my gearing, not the tranny for me. It's personal preference, but I like this combo.

I wish they made one that had the headrest that did not hit me in the middle of the shoulder blades...I'm really not that tall from the butt up!

To answer the question at the beginning: Nope, I tow with a Duramax
