Trailer bunk replacement

Took the boat out for the first year run and after launching, noticed that one of my trailer bunks was floating free from the trailer on one end.
Managed to get it aligned with tie wraps so that we could trailer the boat and now I want to replace all of the bunks. Can I replace them one at a time in my garage (loosen and drop each one then refit) or should I just make all the new bunks up and take the boat to the lake and replace while everyone else plays for a while?
Just wondering if anyone has replaced their bunks with the boat on the trailer.

I have replaced by bunks twice over the years. Never did it on the trailer. I drug the boards, power tools, generator and carpet out to the lake and had at it. Works out good. With another person it only took about an hour. The first time was tougher getting the old rusted bolts out(not stainless from the factory ) Had to grind them off one at a time. Obviously used stainless once I fought that battle. Hope this helps.

Super easy to replace, you just have to find a place for your boat while working on the trailer. Most marinas will allow you to keep at their dock for a few bucks. You can pre-measure all the bunks and and have the carpet pre cut and ready to wrap once the bunk is bolted in place, the exterior/marine carpet sold at Lowe's is decent stuff and a lot less than what you would pay at a upholstery shop. Make sure to use stainless steel staples and good replacement hardware.

I just had the same thing happen to me...the carpet was still good so I replaced the bolts (which had rusted out) w/ stainless and switched the bunk around so I could tap new holes. The wood was still good.

Check the bolts real close...it may be easier than you think.

for my old boat/trailer, I was able to find a replacement pre-carpteed bunk at BassPro shops in their boating dept. May want to check. I was able to get old bolts out, but had to drill hole thru to fit my trailer to reinstall. Which is why they end up rotting after a while....

My local dealer has a lift and they let me put the Tige on it and helped me replace the bunks. I had the new bunks cut and wrapped and ready to go so that all I had to do was get the old ones off and put the new ones on. I'm glad I didn't try to do it at the lake as it took an air chisel to get the old bolts off. I would have been screwed.

I left the boat at the lake and worked on the trailer during the week in the garage. I bought the carpet / bunk carpet from the dealer because I could not find applicable material. You want to use SS bolts / nuts, treated lumber and SS staples.
