Sources for leaks

Left the boat (98 2200V) in overnight then took the kids out in in this afternoon. It was pretty much dry when I left it last night but when I got out there this afternoon there was about 4-5 inches of water in the bottom. Almost up to the engine mounts in the back. Where should I start looking in regards to finding the sources? Are there any automatic bilge pumps I could get as well?

Check you shaft seal.

Prop shaft, thracking fins, bilge plug.

Just about any automatic bilge pump will do, lots to choose from.

If you drain the boat dry you should be able to see water entering the boat.I would start with the shaft seal and any area that has a hole like the shaft strut under the motor and the bolts/wires for the taps.Also I have seen water enter through the rutter bushing.As fast as it leaks you can find it.

Don't need to spend nearly that much.
Here's One Not sure why Home Depot sells em, but Attwood are good solid pumps.

yeah that 2000 is WAY bigger than you think size wise plus it way over kill and the stock hose will not fit it.
this baby right here will do you just fine.but finding the leak is key as well start with the shaft it is the most common.

Shower? Those have sometimes been the source of leaks.

Lazy mans solution. Leave water in hull. Put boat on trailer. Take it home. Go inside. Drink beer. Watch tv. Go outside and find wet spot on concrete. Look up. Follow water to source of leak.


Note. Wait until sober to repair.

trailering boat with 4-5 inches of water=VERY BAD IDEA
smart/right way to do it=pull boat out leave it on an angle drain ALL the water out the back replace drain plug place boat back in water find leak.repair leak then have beers/drinks to celebrate job well done.
