Pulling to right

Well...took my new 98 2200V out for a spin today. Everything is great except that it pulls hard to the right if I take my hand off the steering wheel. Any ideas?

But seriously that is how the boat handles normally, mine is the same way. All part of the inboard experience.

As time time2kyl said, alot of inboards do it.

That being said, check your tracking fins first like evil said! Make sure they look straight.

If they do, you can then sand/file on the opposite side of the rudder, that it's pulling. In otherwords, your gonna want to sand/file on the port side. This changes the hydrodynamics of it and can help straighten you out. Problem is, you gotta sand, check it on the water.... sand, check it on the water, sand some more, check it on the water again. This is what Tige told me to do, I talked w/ my dealer and he said he's done it to more than a few boats. I never did do it, but apparently it works.

The Reason it pulls is for running a ski course. It gives the driver a little resistance to steer back into to help hold that perfectly strait line.

Like Tanner said this can be eliminated with some sanding to the rudder, but it takes lots of sanding and checking to make sure that you don't over correct. I would say talk to your dealer or tige directly and see if they might be able to set you up with a different rudder, one that doesn't pull.

We have grinded on one rudder over the years.It actually took more grinding than I expected.I sat on the back of our lift and grinded and then test drove over and over till I got it to drive normal for our customers 22V. That boat is the only one I have noticed that bad over the years.

This is a very serious problem!! A few models in 98 had problems with pulling and chine lock due to warped molds. I would talk to your dealer immediately!

Yup, this is called a loaded rudder, like the others have stated. It keeps you driving straight instead of floating around. You can grind down the rudder to compensate. If I were you I would only grind a little bit just to take the edge off the pull.

You need to have the left trailing edge taken down with a grinder. Contact your local dealer or shop that knows how to do this.

I have the same problem on my 99'. Freaked me out at first, now I dont really notice it. I am rarely over 21mph anyway.
