    help! vibration at takeoff

At the end of the last season I noticed that when I punched the throttle to tow someone there was a slight vibration for the first 2 seconds and then it went away. I took it out today and the vibration is longer and has trouble planing out quickly. I took it to the dealer a few weeks ago and they could find nothing wrong with the prop. When I look it seems that the shaft is off the the side of the entry into the hull. Any thoughts? Going to take it back in Tuesday.

Take the prop off, and set on something level (like a glass top table) if is sits flat, it's probably not the prop. Mine was off by the smallest of margins, but on the water the vibration was ridiculous.

Take the prop to Jim's prop shop, and have him test it out. He's got better equipment then WWS when it comes to props. Also, WWS subs their prop work out to a traveling prop guy.

This is nothing negative against WWS, I think they are great. I just think Jim's is better for props.

It doesn't sound like the prop. I have the same issue. I need a new shaft. It's slightly bent. If your strut has the shaft off to one side, then you may need a new shaft too.

          Did you hit anything?

Is Jims the way to go for shafts as well?? Then I will go there for sure.

No I didn't hit anything, but I may have moored it too close to shore last labor day. Had some kids jumping on the swim platform.

Before you spend money on the shaft and strut, take it to your dealer and see if they can do anything.

Check your shaft/coupler alignment. It's easy to do with a set of feeler gauges. I don't remember the exact spec, but I think that it's a difference of .008. I'm sure that someone on this site can tell you the exact procedure if I've missed something. It's been a while. All you need to do is loosen the bolts holding the coupler to the prop shaft. rotate the shaft and use the feeler guage to check the alignment. If it's out of whack it would cause your vibration.
Indecision may or may not be my problem

Turns out it was the prop, one fin was slightly out of cup. Was told it can't be recupped so had to get new prop.

That sucks man! So it can't be sent back to Acme to get it fixed then?

EDIT - did you get a different pitch prop or just go with what you had before?

Glad it wasn't anything more than that....all that underwater gear's expensive.

If the cup is damaged or bent around the hub or anywhere near the hub the prop is trashed. I have spent a lot of time with one of best in the nation when it comes to repairing ACME props and learned a lot from him. He has a laser system to check and repair the props.
