boat mold

So I go to pick up my boat today that was stored all winter in a fully enclosed storage unit. I thought it was odd that new doors had been installed on the whole unit. But I was just happy to get the boat out. When I get home and start pulling everything out to give her a good spring cleaning, I discover that she is full of water. It's wet under all the seats, under the ballast bags in the bow and the engine compartment is full of water. Mold is covering everything in the boat. Not so much in the cockpit, but in every storage compartment in the boat. Even the engine has mold on it.
I'm going to confront the owner of the units first, but I need to get rid of all this mold. Is this something insurance might take care of? If not, what is the best way to get rid of all of the mold? I have every hatch open right now hoping that the air will dry it out. I parked on an incline and it has drained out. What else should I do??? This is a brand new F*&%ing boat! I got it in the fall and test drove it when it was cold and haven't taken the family out in it yet

me being a painter i would go to the local paint store and get mold spray it wont get bleach spots like bleach will keep open and it will die

Wow...I wish I had some advice for you, but all I can give are my condolences. This is rotten luck, and to a brand new boat

Man am I sorry that you got all that water and mold. I have used a spray that kills mold and is safe on fabrics but I need to see in my CFO remebers name because I don't.

Read your contract with the storage unit, then go talk with (rather than "confront") them and show them the boat. Was it represented as "Dry" storage? Did they remove the storage unit doors during a torrential driving sideways rain storm? See what they'll tell you.

You, or your insurance company, may need an attorney if the storage company doesn't just apologize and hand you a claim form against their insurance. Document the damage before you try to clean it up. You may want to have a marine surveyor give you a report on the damage.

I agree with noworries. I take it to him to see the damage before you clean it if possible. Definitely take a lot of pictures.

Did you leave the plug in the boat? Was your boat stored near the 'replaced' doors?

Sucky situation for sure. I have used with great results liquid comet spray gel. Florida humidity grows mold very fast and this seems to work better than any of the mold specific interior cleaners. I would not use it often, but this once to remove and kill the mold would not hurt. I heard about this from another tige owner/dealer.

Don't take it anywhere.Don't clean anything.Have a survey done first then call your insurance company.If the storage is at fault your insurance will sue them and you won't have to deal with it.

Update.

I called the owner of the storage unit. He told me the roof was blown off in bad weather IN THE FALL!!!!!I told him I would have moved it had I known the roof was off! Why am I paying for fully enclosed storage??? So, not only was the boat soaked, but it probably froze in there as well. NICE! What a cluster.
He's on the phone with his insurance company right now hopefully. We'll see how this goes.

He should have notified everyone that had items in that storage. IMO He should give you your money back for storage on top of repairing all the damage to your boat.

I called my insurance company and they were great(BoatUS). He says he is calling his insurance. Servpro is on their way. I'm really getting concerned about ice damage though.

As long as your motor was winterized I would think that some water in the bottom of the boat wouldn't hurt to much. You might need a new bilige pump and I would have the ins. replace the stering cable too. Sorry to hear that. That sucks.
