    PROP ?

What is the best prop to run? Currently I have a 4 blade stainless prop and it seems to work good for pulling. Is there a better prop that works for pulling and faster top speed? What is an average good top speed for cruising?

Yup, call ACME. Lots of variables that will determine the best prop for YOU. Hull, engine, ballast, type of use, altitude, etc.

I would never run a stainless prop in my lakes because if you hit something there is a good chance it is going to ruin something else like your shaft or gears, imo.

I didn't know they made stainless props for these small inboards. I have stock and the HP prop...I notice a big difference between the two. I keep the HP on all the time and the stock only when I need Prop repair. Priority is low end torque for pulling two or three at a time or a raft loaded with 3 kids. Top speed is totally senseless for this type of boat.

I hit multiple items (mostly stumps) with my stainless prop and did not have any damage to shaft or gears. I guess I am lucky!

With a stainless prop you can damage the v-drive but what is more vulnerable is the running gear ie. the prop shaft if you hit a submerged log or other in-animate object that can bend the prop blades with a stainless prop has a higher tendency of getting the propshaft.

Even a nibral or bronze prop if they strike something hard enough can also cause damage to propshaft. My brother in-law refuses to go to TableRock Lake because he ruined 2 props and shafts entering a cove called Little COW and the first time he hit a submerged log and second time a stump. Because the prop shaft is vulnerable with a prop strike you want the prop to get damaged and absorb the shock and not propshaft

Not only can a stainless prop bend your shaft but the poor balance will ruin your stut bearings in less than a hundred hours.

                  It can but it DIDN'T

I won't try that again... Whew...

I think the older boats are made to withstand more abuse!

I emailed acme, I had a 537 on my 2007 24Ve. He recommended the 1235 especially for lots of ballast wakeboarding and wakesurfing. I finally dinged my prop, and had to do it. WHAT A DIFFERENCE. It was a new boat. Not only did it jump off the line, with zero lag, but it handled like a 22 footer. Amazing.
