considering the dealer needs to pay electicity, gas, rent/lease, payroll, boat floor costs, ... I don't think that they dealers are getting rich anytime soon. Especially with the older 2007 and 2008 that some of the dealers still have on their sales floors.
Some of the best deals that you can find right now are on used boats for people who need to get out from underneath them financially or finding a dealer with prior year models that they are willing to part with at or near their invoice. The only downside of this route versus ordering a new model is getting specifically what you are looking for.
I always wonder what the fair mark up is for a boat if you want the dealer to be around when you want service or another boat. If you want a boat at or below cost, who is going to be around when you want another one. I am not saying that I don't look for a good deal, but just asking what really constitutes a good deal. Things are pretty rough right now for dealers and I hope that most of them are able to pull through.

I really like my dealer and trust him, I guess it is situation dependent but I just told him to give me the best fair deal he could and I felt I got a good enough deal to just leave the negotiating at that. I feel by not bickering back and forth over a few bucks that I kept the dealer relationship strong and have gotten great service because of it. On the flip side, there are some killer deals out there right now on left over 2007 and 2008's. So as much as I like to support the local guy, I would have driven any distance to get a new 22ve for $39.5k like twinturbostroker, and that is only 1.5 hours from me. Oh well, I do love our 22v and plan to have it for a VERY long time. Enjoy whatever you end up with.

I'd have to agree. You going to need a relationship with a dealer that can service and maintain your boat. Some dealers are in the service business more than others. 40K for a new 22ve, GOD! I'm curious what it came with??
Dealer markup is not as high as most think. If you take into account the fixed cost/overhead of running a seasonal biz for 12 months a yr, it's not a lot of net profit. Best Buy netted way more % on that big screen you bought.

It's a tough thing to figure out bc I don't think any of us have a clue what Tige or any other manufacturer is selling these things to the dealers at. Then, you have to figure in the financing rates (which probably are not equal across the board). I don't like to see huge markups, but I also don't want to see dealers losing money. It should be interesting to see how this whole thing with the economy sorts out. 07's and 08's are going to have sold at bargain basement prices in a lot of places. As such, will that affect resale 5-6 years down the road?
