    Travel cover for Tige 22ve

I just purchased a '06 22ve (upgraded from a Cobalt runabout). The kids are anxiously waiting for warmer days!

I need to get a travel cover for the boat. I've had snap covers before and I would like to try a cinch cover. I can get a tige cinch-style cover from the dealer for $675. Seems like a good price, and it looks like a snug fit, but I'm wondering how it performs while traveling. Has anyone used this cover before while towing? I don't want to scratch up the boat's gel coat.

I have towed with the Tige Cover many times no problems. Maybe also look at a Rankin cover, better quality in my opinion.

A buddy of mine has had 2 22Ves and he swears by them. He tows with the cover on. It appears to have held up very well and he uses his boat a lot.

For sure the Rankin will be the best for towing. I think they are made out of sunbrella, and the tige ones are sharkskin. The tige one has messed up our gel a little bit with it only sitting in our back yard with the wind.

The Rankin covers are super well fitted to the boat and made of heavier materials but more work to take on and off the boat and spendy relative to the Tige version. I sent you a pm regarding a deal on a Rankin cover I have.

the tige one is ok, but once u get a custom one or a high quality one u wont go back. I have both, and will never tow with a tige one again

The Tige covers are a high-quality cover. The company that makes them for Tige (cant remember their name) makes covers for many other manufactures as well as customer orders. I think they are the ones that Correct Craft has picked up to do their covers for the 09's. The covers are made specifically for each model boat, so, they are custom and not a universal. I tower with mine and it performed great.

Thanks for the information. Sounds like the factory cover has worked well for people, but I have heard good things about Rankin covers.

I may be able to pick up a new Rankin cover for the same price as the factory cover (around $600). Any suggestions as to which one to go with?

I haven't seen a Rankin cover, but I did stop the the Tige dealer and look at the factory cover. The factory cover has nice cutouts for tie downs and the gas cap. Nice to be able to fill up on the way to the lake without having to remove the cover.

Rankins are great but they will rub the paint off of the windshield frame and scuff the gel coat on long freeway trips. I have first hand knowledge of this. You can put plumbing insulation over the frame and be good to go. I plan wrapping above the rub rail with celephane to protect the gel coat.
I ordered a cover for my Avy seven weeks ago and was told it was getting made this week. They are about eight weeks out although they told me three to for weeks when I ordered it.

I have the TIGE cover with my 24ve and works very well for towing--Twice per year @ 400 miles each way. Also easy to put on take off while boat is sitting on life.

You'll love the 22ve but its a different animal than the Cobalt to maneuver at slow speeds, docking and getting onto trailer. Practice sungging up to a lifejacket in the water & esp backing up if you've always had an I/O and now learning to drive a V/Direct Drive.

22ve is a great family choice

                      chp you are correct,

but I also have a tige one and I have towed with it, and I promise you that it's nothing compared to the custom one I had made. The custom one DOESN"T MOVE when I drive, where the tige one does flap in the wind.

IF tige is using a different cover then the one I have then maybe they have changed, but the one I have was from Tige made for my boat, and it is good, but nothing compared to the custom one I had made. Just my

We got a Rankin cover 2 years ago and it is great. It is made out of Sunbrella. There is a rope that goes completely around the perimeter just under the rub rail to cinch it down. At each tower leg there is a covered plastic buckle like on a ski vest and a short booty with heavy duty plastic zippers. At the transom there is a belt/ratchet assembly to tighten the rope. There are three L shaped brackets under the edges on each side covered with soft fuzzy cloth that hook over the rub rail to add more tension across the main seating area. There are five straps along the transom that hook around the tow hooks and grab rail to tighten lengthwise. Stitched under the cover there is more soft fuzzy material across the windshield and transom areas.

We've towed several hundred miles and haven't had any problem with the cover rubbing any paint off or marring the gel coat. It barely moves over the main seating area. I wouldn't tow without it as it helps protect the windshield and shortens the sun exposure time on the interior. It's dusty in our area and I found a good price on a sharkskin cover that I use when it's parked at home to keep the dust and sun off the Rankin.

FYI, I ordered a cover in July from Rankin. They charged my card and never delivered a cover. It is now November. There website is still up, but the phone number listed is disconnected. They won't return and calls or email. Beware.

I'm in the same situ. as you. I knew they would be slow but I'm wondering if I will ever see it. Are you close to Bottel(sp)? I can try to call a buddy who lives in Seattle to go down there.
