Nice ride. Looks well cared for
If you're giong to get a tower, get a good one and be done with it. It is well worth it. Then have a bimini made for it. It had mine built strapless and 100% tower mounted. There are pics in my gallery. Not the cheapest way to go but, it works fantastic and looks killer IMHO.
So far as big water is concerned, it's a Tige. Built for abuse. Not other boat of that vintage, size and style will do any better. However, if you want to keep your fillings in your head, go slow, taps at 1 and keep your beer, I mean beverage in your hand.
Ballast- I'd go 60% rear, 40% front, taps between 8 and 6. See what happens.
Lastly, FAE. Best thing ever. When you can, get one. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

Nickypoo - I would really love to get a tower with a nice bimini, that would be ideal. The only thing is money... I thougt about Paublo's idea of getting an extended pylon, but in the future I want to put speakers up there. I guess I can always wait and save money, but who wants to do that!?!
As far as the waves go, I know the slower you go, the better the ride. The thing I am concerned with is how the boat will do when waves are big enough to crash over the bow, hit the windshield, and go into the boat. I was caught in a Lake Powell storm once in a 19 foot I/O and was seriously worried for my life.

Lucky for you the closed bow will definately help with keeping water out of the interior. But It will still happen. Plus the vents under the windshield are just going to scoop water into the bilge.
If you are really worried about getting caught in a storm and possibly swamping/sinking, I would install another bilge pump.Common Sense is not so Common
Looking for fat chicks for long walks, romance, cheap buffets, and BALLAST.

A good extended pylon would be the best short term solution IMO. You can have a local bimini shop modify and patch the existing bimini to fit around pylon. You'll get your chance, smart guy.

The Lake Powell storms can be scary. The closed bow will keep the water out of the boat, but they will get on your windshield. Head for cover is my advice when you see those storm clouds rolling in. The bow rise should be sufficient to protect you at slower speeds. It would worry me if you have to travel parallel to the waves, the sides of that boat are low.Be excellent to one another.
