Water forecast for Lake Powell promising

LAKE POWELL -- Listen up, boaters. There's a decent forecast for Lake Powell this year.

The Bureau of Reclamation has been crunching the latest snowpack numbers. It also had to calculate how much water will be left after mandatory releases to Arizona, Nevada and California.

We learned the answer today: The lake should peak in July at an elevation of 3,640 feet. That's seven feet higher than last year, putting the reservoir at 66 percent of capacity, or two-thirds full.

Not bad after all these years of drought.

Wow, I had no idea Powell was that low. 66% of capacity seems crazy low. Sorry you guys have to deal with that.

65% of capacity??? That's nothing compared to some CA lakes.. But it's good to see that Powell is rising again.

When think of how big it is 66% is a lot of water. I believe that is a lot more than Mead which is at 47% now.

That is good news, especially since a trip for Powell in July is being planned!

I flew over today on my way to SLC for AZ. The by pass is higher than three or four weeks ago when I flew past. I never did hear if they finished digging it out did anyone else hear if they finished.

I read that colorado is getting pounded with snow right now, and that they expect about three feet in the mountains! Should be a good runoff!

It looks like I'm in a snow globe, and someone's been shaking it too much. The flakes are larger then a nickle, but smaller then a quarter out in Parker.

I want a nice spring with lots of boating and these spring storms are killing me. This is the 2nd weekend that my son had 2 baseball games postponed. Those makeup games are going to eat into my boating time. :-(

                Ok, enough complaining!!

It's crazy huge snowflakes here in the Denver area! I work in Loveland and all it did was rain all day, drive home to Thornton and it's just as Waterski-Rebel describes! I would have preferred rain but we need the moisture so bad that I will take it!
