This economic meltdown is hitting hard and we havn't seen the worst of it! check WW for the post about malibu. I dont know how to attach a link. It says the merced, ca plant in 07' was rolling out 8 boats a day now their down to 1 a day. and laying off 150+ of its 200 employees. Hey TigePigeon can you give us an idea of how Tige' is doing? Malibu is one many other boat companies that need to ride out the storm. IMO bass boats that are so overpriced, at least one inboard company and a couple of companies that have multiple brands like Gen mar where there brand overlap may cause them to drop on of 4 runabout style boats.

I saw that post when it came out which speaks well for Tige Management. I cannot believe the $100 a boat rent for that facility. That is one astute business man getting a deal like that. Rent or lease payments are one of the top 5 expenses companies have.
1-Salaries
2-Medical Coverage
3-Rent or Lease
4-Inventory (cost of goods sold)
5-Phone Bills

I've always felt they are 100% overpriced or double what they should retail for.
The Bass Boat builders either have to reduce to realistic, reasonable prices, or they will fold.

So the same can be said in all markets. Everything was over priced from housing to RV's be it boats or motor homes. These are things we can live without and that is why the bottom is falling out of the market. IMHO

HMMMM!!! I think this weekend will be very interesting. I don't think this is over yet and I think the ECO will retract some more yet this summer. Then OBAMA will spend some more of our money.www.automarinecare.com CWB, ACME, FlyHigh, Merc Marine, PCM, Marine-power, WETSOUNDS, HSE Volume Controls, Kicker, Sony, Samson Sports, and many other marine parts or accessory's.

WRONG!
By law they had to send letters to everyone at the Merced plant warning of the possiblity of layoffs in the next 60 days.
Malibu is the only watersports manufactuer to not stop production.
They also say they will re-hire any workers and workers that would get laid off, if it comes down to that.
Also the plant in Tennessee has more business right now. There is more demand for boats in the Midwest to East than in the West.Common Sense is not so Common
