The NW WAKESURF ASSOCIATION will be hosting the First Annual NORTHWEST WAKESURF OPEN August 28-30, 2009, on Lake Sammamish, Washington. This will be the first ever wakesurfing competition in Washington State and it will be sanctioned by USA WATER SKI. Lake Sammamish is located just fifteen minutes east of downtown Seattle and has always been a forefront destination for water sports. The lake is now one of the premier locations for wakesurfing in the Northwest, making this the ideal location for the event. This three-day event is expected to draw many of the nation’s premier wakesurfers.
Bake’s Marine will provide Malibu Wakesetter 23 LSV towboats, configured for both regular and goofy riders, with additional prizes and sponsorship provided by Red Bull, Inland Surfer and West Marine. Each registrant will also recieve a NorthWave Bakoda backpack and other swag.
- Friday will be dedicated to Malibu boat demos and practice runs for registered competitors.
- The Saturday tournament will take place all day and conclude with an award ceremony, barbeque and party at the beautiful Lake Sammamish home of Jeff and Debbie Page and Inland Surfer.
- On Sunday, interested competitors and their guests will be paired with a local Lake Sammamish host for a day of wakesurfing and relaxation.
The tournament will have several men’s and women’s divisions, including Open, Amateur, Masters (50+) and Junior (<16), with prizes for each division winner. Currently the event is limited to forty-five competitors, so competitors are encouraged to register early. Should there be sufficient demand, the tournament organizers may expand the event to accommodate more competitors.
