    65ft houseboat

    main cabin area of houseboat

The trip begins! Pic taken from the Tige.

It was abnormally calm that day, butter everywhere. We filled the sacks and boarded while heading to our first days destination.

The ride to the first spot in the Tige

Quick swim break while we argued about where we were on the lake. I was wrong on this one.

Trying to catch a bass while dinner was prepping, no luck

Moving up the Devils River arm of Amistad

        Cruise to explore

Blue green water of the flats

Notice how clear the water is, you can clearly see our legs in the water, so beautiful!

Busting out the cut n jump skis, 80's style!

My buddy getting ready to ride. Incidentally he just bought a Z1 and will be posting on here at some point

        Don't drop the rope, dude!

          Jump

The girls on a hike in Indian Spring cove

View from back in Indian Springs cove with the houseboat and tige in the distance.

The guys listening to tunes (new wetsounds syn4 and xs-fa 10) in the Tige. The new stereo additions rock!

          Girls getting rowdy

And the watergun fight is on, girls vs boys!

          Down the slide

trailer tire blowout about 30 minutes into the trip home. Temp outside, 102, about 3pm so you know that road was smoking. I should have listened to you guys and replaced all 4 tires before I left. Luckily I had a spare. When I got home last night I noticed that another original tire was splitting, we got really lucky not to lose a second on the ride back. Lessons learned, new tires going on this week.

thanks yllw20. Here are a couple of surfing that my buddies girl took. Still do not have the surf wake dialed. Need to spend more time on it.

This water is so clear and green!

Finally got a decent surf wake, still a work in progress though

That place looks awesome! Did yall have to drive the houseboat?

Did you see any other boaters out there? Place looks deserted.

rjcruise - thanks a lot, it was a blast

Dog - All I kept thinking about after the first blowout was what you said in my spare tire thread and then when I saw the steel belts on the other trailer tire I got so scared. At least I noticed it when I got onto Ben White so I was really close to home.

Matt - We did drive the boat. It was not bad at all actually, a buddy who has limited experience was able to drive it without much issue. With two motors it is much more manuverable than you would think. The rental company does drive it away from the marina for you and then picks you back up in the open water so you don't have to try to dock it. It is slow going though, about 8 MPH at the most, and any headwind slows you down. We saw a few boats on Thursday, like maybe 5, then more friday and then Saturday there were some tubers and fisherman around. Only one Supra that we saw all weekend, but they were just pulling a tube around with kids in it. The challenge at Amistad is the wind, it got really windy Saturday so we did not even try to wakeboard, we just surfed. I am sure we could have found good water if we tried, but we wanted to stay up in the flats area because it was so cool and most on the trip did not ride.

Last year when we went on our houseboat trip, we came back into the marina and the rental place took over the helm. Let me say that the wind was kicking around 15 MPH and the wind pushed the houseboat into three of their rental boats and a jetski. Was not a beautiful site (Well, maybe for the jetski but not for the other boats ) I am glad that we were not responsible for that since they were driving the houseboat.

Go with Goodyear Marathons. I got mine at Magnum Trailer on 620. Just pulled the boat in and they had me out in a jiffy (all 4 tires).

Great pics, BTW. I gotta do that. How far is it from Austin?

Dog - You answered the next question I was going to ask you, where did you get the tires replaced, thanks. I will give the Magnum guys a call.

It took us about 4:45 to get there and I live off Ben White and Lamar. We hit a little traffic Thursday morning in San Antonio but that was it. We stopped twice and I kept it at about 65 the whole way. You just take 35 thru San Antonio to 90 on to Del Rio. The marina is about 8 miles outside Del Rio. 90 has a lot of small towns so you have to slow down and hit a few lights, but it is pretty wide open 2 lane with big shoulders. A pretty easy drive.

Once I get caught up at work I will write up what I learned and took away from the whole trip. I think I said it earlier, we will do this trip again, everyone agreed that it is a possible annual thing.

That looks like a great time...maybe not as cool as Powell, but it's a lot closer and would be a good warm-up for my eventual Powell trip.
