What to get to run boat out of water

I want to be able to start my boat in driveway and let it idle to testr a few things. I know there is a device for a v-drive to allow water to be drawn into the intake. what are you using or recommend?

Get a Fake-a-Lake. Cheap, easy, done.
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

here are two choices.the one that looks like a plunger is called a fake a lake and is put under the boat on the water intake.works pretty good but can be a pain in the arse to get on and if your in and out of the boat can fall off and cause you problems.
the second one is installed inline on the suction side of the water pump.in the hose that comes from the intake and runs to the raw water pump.you cut the hose take out a few inches to make room for the unit install it inline tighten the clapms your done.then all you have to do is run the garden hose to it.it has a spring loaded plunger that shuts off the water so it only flows one way when the hose is on so all the water does go out the bottom of the boat. they also make a remote kit for this so you can run the hose fitting anywhere you want.
the second one cost a little more but is the one i prefer.but either one will do the job.

those inline ones are notorious for being cheaply made, do a search and you will find many complaints with the quality

they have changed design of these. the new ones are all clear and i have seen zero problems with them. being located so close to the saltwater i work on a ton of boats with these and have only seen 1 failure in 5yrs.and i wrote it up to the way it was installed.it had alot of pull on it and the one end cracked.

My 20V has an inline weed filter where you close a lever to redirect input from intake to hose connect on other side of filter. Was a factory option. My dealer orders them on most boats that they sell off the lot. They recommend it for most of the boat sales in the area due to high amount of floating seaweed in the Southern WI lakes due to farm fertilizer run off. You will come across sections in the lakes that are solid green at the surface.

Ok no pics right now but this is what I have. Coming off the V drive cooling line 1 1/4 pipe thread barb to hose.
I have removed that and added a short nipple and a tee like $3 then added a ball valve with hose connection or quick coupler to 90 on the tee another $15 and then just thread barb back in and done. Add a few more bucks for nipples and teflon tape. Try to use brass fittings also. Works great for running and flushing in driveway.

When you run the motor with the water supply you decide to install, do NOT run the prop. Keep the motor in neutral. The prop must be submerged to provide cooling and lubrication to the exposed shaft support / bushing.

x3...if you do, it only takes a couple of seconds to toast the bushings (which is a bad day any way you look at it).

                              buy a cheap plunger
buy a garden male garden hose fitting that you can drill through the pluger with and attach with a hose clamp and then make sure you have a long enough handle to wedge the plunger between the ground and the freshwater intake. I made mine for $6 because I had an old broom handle in the garage that I cut down.
