    Wakeboard Cable Park

We have a new cable park opening soon in Cincinnati called Wake Nation. There is local newspaper article describing it. There plans are to open more around the U.S.

For those who have been pulled on a cable, what is your opinion? How do you compare to being on a rope (behind a boat)?

I have heard if you like to do rails and stuff like that it's fun. but there isn't a wake to jump so...?

PigDog, I'm sure some others that have ridden cable will chime in, but I would love for a cable park to open near us. I took my son to OWC in Florida a year ago and it was a learning experience for him. They have two lakes, an advanced and a beginner - of course he had to start on the advanced. He learned the hard way to time his jump early off the dock....you have the handle and when it hooks up you're instantly up to 20 mph - you get the picture. He rode on both lakes most of the day and then took a boat lesson, but just the taste of riding cable he wanted to go back. He got that chance just a few weeks back to try it again and had a blast. I wish I could have been there, because this time he knew what to expect and it was on. These boys rode so much on Friday and Saturday that they were too sore to ride Sunday morning. He was hitting the sliders so hard that he pretty much ruined a '08 LF Lyman.... now it's a rail board. Dom is correct that there is no wake, but there are kickers bigger than anything you will ever see behind a boat. Here is pic of Benj doing a stalefish grab off a kicker!

The cable pulls you "up" a lot more than the boat. IMO it's not great for beginners because you can't slow the boat down. People that can get up reliably behind the boat should be fine.

I was in TX last week and rode at TSR. It was my first time and I crashed hard on the sliders. They are very slick and once you leave the water no direction changes are possible. I wouldn't mind going again but I have to let the ligaments in my shoulder heal first!!!!

My wife and daughter both rode too. It was a nice family afternoon.

Riding a cable is different than behind the boat for sure, but they are a blast. It is true it is a little challenging for beginners, but if you can get up behind a boat you are golden. Check out McCormick’s cable park in Tampa, FL – They have the only cable in the US that rotates clockwise which is great for regular footed riders. They also have an “Easy Start” for beginners it goings in a straight line & has a spring loaded rope the rider uses for very gradual starts off the dock.

You can actually launch yourself by loading up the cable, so you really don't need a wake. It's good training for loading up the line so you don't have to rely on the wake as much behind the boat.

Dog's right, but the only problem is the rotation of all the cables are opposite from what the desired rotation would be for riders whom ride regular footed. If you ride goofy, or are comfortable riding switch, you can go BIG right off the bat. Riding at TSR, I've seen some HUGE S-bends in the corners; we're talking `20-30 ft. in the air.

TSR is a awesome place to ride & I am goofey footed so it works great for me. If you are regular footed you need to check out McCormick's Cable Park in Tampa, Fl. The are the only cable in the US that run clockwise and is perfect for regular footed riders.
