Does anyone have experience with putting a boom on a 22VE? I am concerned with the height of the pylon being able to hold the clamp...

I have a Barefoot Intl tower boom on our 22ve; I think it is the best way to go:

We ordered an extended pylon for a quick release so our pylon is 3 or so inches taller than the stock pylon and I still would not feel comfortable using a "V" drive boom. Plus the tower boom has a lot more adjustability when setting it up for the correct height.

Our boat is still in storage but as soon as we get it out in a month I will post up some pics of it w/ the boom on.
If you are really into footing I would look @ the Super Fly High as well.
