I don't know about Chevy, but in my Dodge you tell the computer the axle ratio and the tire revolutions per mile and all is good. Of course, the dealer didn't know how to do it. I had to tell them.
Go pull your boat. You'll be fine. But if you don't like the way it pulls you can either swap out the whole axle, or have the gears changed. Check the chevy forums, you could even find someone who'd do a straight across rear end swap for the 3.42 one. Its fairly common on the Dodge forums for guys to swap their 3.73s with other guys for their 4.10s.
Don't over think this. Go pull your boat with your lovely new truck.

I have this for my Sierra, and you can get one for any chevy full size. It allows changing of tire diameter and axle ratio. Just a quick reflash, and your speedometer is calibrated.
