They are the 3.73 gears so I will get better HWY MPG but towing wont be as good.

3.73 gears will tow BETTER than the 3.42s and will accommodate the big tires you're sure to add later. You're better off with the lower gear ratio that you got. Good job.

You've got a great truck. Go enjoy it.

Just talked to the dealer and they told me that they wouldn’t change the ratio for me. They said it would void the warranty. I could always do it later but it will throw off the speedometer and engine timing

mine has the 5.3 with cold air intake and cat back exhaust. You can tell the difference. My wifes yukon with the 5.3 is a little slower pulling the boat. Unless you pull something real big this truck will make you real happy

I have a 2002 GMC Sierra with the 5.3. I did the Granetelli's pull hard kit, plus flash reprogram, and it made a huge difference. Added about 70hp. I can tow my 24Ve very well now, and it didn't before.

Gotta love them dealers. What a load of How could changing the axle ratio void the warranty? Its a factory option.

I don't know about Chevy, but in my Dodge you tell the computer the axle ratio and the tire revolutions per mile and all is good. Of course, the dealer didn't know how to do it. I had to tell them.

Go pull your boat. You'll be fine. But if you don't like the way it pulls you can either swap out the whole axle, or have the gears changed. Check the chevy forums, you could even find someone who'd do a straight across rear end swap for the 3.42 one. Its fairly common on the Dodge forums for guys to swap their 3.73s with other guys for their 4.10s.

Don't over think this. Go pull your boat with your lovely new truck.

I have this for my Sierra, and you can get one for any chevy full size. It allows changing of tire diameter and axle ratio. Just a quick reflash, and your speedometer is calibrated.

I know. I know. I changed the whole axle on my ranger from 3.73 to 4.10 becaue I had 33"tires on it. I dont think I will have to worry about it. on this truck. i probably wont lift it.
