    Bass Lake Dam Inspection

Talked to my parents the other day. They live on Bass Lake year round. Dad told me the dam failed an earthquake inspection and the feds won't let the lake fill to 100%. The dam needs to be re enforced to withstand an 8.1 quake. If there is an 8.1, Mammoth will probably blow and that means that entire area will be a smok'n hole in the ground. Anyway, the lake will be at least 10ft down for at least 3yrs. If you have ever been to Bass Lake, that is alot of water. Most of the docks including my dads will be high and dry. His dock will be a good 400ft from the waters edge. Alot of beaches though.
So, if your planning a trip be sure to ask about the dock situation with the house you rent and watch out for submerged stumps and rocks.

    Greg,

Thanks for the heads up. Have a trip planned in July, but may have to re-think it. Last thing I need is a bunch of objects in the water to have to maneuver around. Plus, yeah, the house we were looking at does have a dock that makes it convenient to just drive up to, tie the boat off, and enjoy some cold ones afterwards. But, not if I have to pull the boat out everyday, that would definitely be a bummer.

Will make a phone call this evening and inquire regarding the status of their dock and what have you.

Thanks again. See you on the 27th!

Where is your Dad's dock located? The house we have uses Island dock near the Sheriff's tower, and even with the lake full last year, the water at our slip was only about 4-5 feet deep. The year before was worse, with most of the side-tie dock grounded. If we can't dock anywhere on Island...we will cancel our reservations. Thanks for the heads-up! Miller's Landing will be hurting too....thanks Greg!

We're talking Bass Lake near Oakhurst....right?

Never mind...I just did a Google search...it is Bass Lake near Oakhurst.

my parents dock and house are across from the falls sandbar. they just spent $30k on a new dock 2yrs ago and it has only floated for about 4 months so far. it only takes about 5ft below full for his dock to be useless. it's a shame too, they got soooo much snow this year, the lake would have been full from memorial day thru labor day. F'n blows. i love tying up my flatbottom to the dock, sitting back waiting for the water to settle down and go make some 90mph blasts out in front of denver church day use for all the flat landers to watch.
inside willow cove (sheriffs tower) is usually ok. we go up in mid sept. every year and the water is about 10ft down, alot of beaches and the sand island is huge. i think most of those docks will be floating. anything below the pines marina should be ok.
