Water leak!

Any one ever had a water leak through the bolt holes on one of the tracking fins?

That's pretty unusual. Did they hit something?

As far as I know nothing was hit, it is only leaking on the back fin as far as I can tell. I took the fin off last night and the screws didn't seem very tight. So maybe they just werent tightened enough at the plant or maybe they vibrated loose. Once I got the fin off, it definitely looked like water had got in between the fin and the gelcoat.

never heard of that either, silicone that baby up, loc-tite them screws and get it on the water!!!

I would think you'd want them sealed with silicone.

Well, they are removable, so 5200 would be a bad idea.

I would definitely seal them up but, the 5200 might be a bit extreme just in case you do need to remove it. That stuff could seal up the Titanic.

My dealer said to use silicone or the 3m 5200, and I used the 3m so hopefully it will fix the problem.

3m will fix it, just hope you never need to take one back off. I had to take out a thruhull on my fishing boat and the 5200 took some gel coat with it. The 4200 is less permanent, still a pain to clean up.

A tampon and some duct tape will fix any leaks...

For sure use the 3M 5200. Make sure it is 70 degrees out for at least three days in a row to dry it out good. And make sure you give it three days to dry out even though it says it is dry in 24 hrs. That is important. I have used that stuff on strut replacements works great and is the best stuff out there for below water. Also put some on the bolt going through the bottom of the boat and some on the washer and bolt inside the boat. make a complete seal inside and out with it around the boat and around the fin.

Have some Acetone on hand for clean up. Then once it all drys out wax and buff the gel-coat where you hit it with acetone to clean of the 5200. It has to be cleaned off while still wet and not 100% set up. Let us know how it goes.
