    Impeller and heater

I have seen many of post about the above but have two quick questions.

Impeller- My boat has only 37 hours on it, 2008 22ve, having it dewinterized by a reputable Tige dealership and I asked to have the impeller changed, he said it was not necessary, I have read that most have it changed every spring, seems like a very important and relatively cheap preventative care issue. I did not argue with him since his knowledge is exponentially better than mine. What are yalls thoughts. Should I push the issue.

Bought and having a 3 vent (two hot tube) heater install, do yall any picture of where the Tige "factory" installed heaters look like and are placed.

Hope to be on the water by first week of April, I am going to use the personally modified "Old age 100 degree rule". Water temp plus air temp plus the age of the person getting in. I figure that is more accurate than the original. I will see how it works.

    Thanks.

    Impeller info only

The first year of ownership on the 24Ve I didn't change the impeller for the next season. It was fine. However, I do change it just to be on the safe side.

They say the impeller can go for 200 hours but IMO, that is too long.. Nothing is more embarrassing than having to be pulled into the dock by a Bu or MC I'll take the preventive maintenance any day

You should be fine with 2 season on an impeller. It's really a toss up among us owners of who does it every season and who goes 2. I'm not scared to go 2 myself but would never talk anyone out of doing every season.

Not sure of any pics off hand, try using the "Search" key at the top. I can tell you that Tige places the core/fan asm behind the driver's console in the storage. 1 vent in the walk-way, one under the helm.

My dealer told me the same thing. They're just being honest. I trust my dealer's service manager, so there's never an issue. They also make things right when something gets messed up.

If your not going to change it I would buy a spare for the glove box.

Lets face it, it's a piece of rubber that gets wet and dry and hot and cold. It will fail over time depending on use and conditions. Is the $30 part worth the hassell and it also keeps the fluids moving that keep the motor cool....it's kinda important.

You would be surprised how easy it is to change an impeller.

Then you have the impeller remover tool.

10-15 minutes tops and I was taking my time and making sure that I was doing everything correctly. I think I could have done it within <5 minutes with the tool and everything in arms reach.

                    Appreciate

I appreciate your responses, I have read the installation post before, I do not have a impellar puller. I am fairly ignorant when it comes to marine engines and since I have a v drive, I stuck my head in there and could not idenity the right part. I only looked for 5 minutes, but i figure if I could not find it then, I probably should not be taking it out, which is a good mantra for surgery also. Someone also told me to never take away business from a professional.

                    Thanks for your help

you really do not need the tool
2 flat head screwdrivers work great
been doing that for over 15 years

True but you also take the chance of damaging the housing unit if done incorrectly. Murphy does come around once in awhile and visits me

So, right tool for the right situation but that is just my opinion.

u really can not damage it, u do gouge the impeller up, but u r replacing it!
are these metal on the newer motors or plastic

it's metal However, I save the impeller for my spare just in case

But yes, Lee and others have said you can do it with two screw drivers. I just prefer the tool.

I change mine each season since it takes only 20 minutes or so and the cost is less that $50 delivered. I also use the "run dry impellers".
I would hate to loose a great day on the water and pay the local shop $250 when I can do it myself and spend the rest on beer and gas.
