    Rack on Alpha Tower

There are 2 typers of rack available to Alpha Tower
    1) turnable
    2) fixed

Turnable cost 4 times more than fixed rack
Is it really worth to buy the turnable one??
Are the rack shape the same between them??

I honestly dont think its worth the extra cash and its rediculous how much more the swivels cost. Up until 4 or 5 years ago nothing had them and everything still worked fine.

I have swivel racks on my boat and at least half the time never turn them to put boards on.

I don't have the current year model but I do have turnable racks and I can say that I love them. Having the ability to stay in the boat while getting my board is priceless. Without a turnable rack, you have to gunwale and risk the chance of slipping into the water.

Both of you guys have good points. Overpriced? yes. But worth the cost the 1st time one of the kids slips or you scratch the gel or rip a seat skin.

Wow! I bet you guys think I'm clumsy.

PZ- Boat storage is the really the most common necessity for swivel racks. Most people who buy them have narrow boat lifts or narrow garage doors that require turning them in. Out on the water, rotating them is usually preference.

The turnable racks are worthless on the 09's Alpha Tower. If you have the bimini open you can not turn in the racks because the bimini is in the way.....

Uh oh...I hope not. We haven't taken ours out since the swivel racks came in. If this is true, I will not be a happy camper!

I would imagine that the bindings that face towards the sky might be hitting the bimini

                      yep they sure do.......

When we were at the LA boat show they had the 09 24ve with the bimini top open and the racks just barely fit under the top and where it did fit under the top the bimini continued to go lower after that. That manes not only will the boots facing to the sky hit it looked like the boards will hit the bimini before you even get to the boots.

We showed Charlie P. this and he agreed that the location of the board racks needs to be moved down allowing the boards to clear the bimini.

                          Crapola!

I wonder if it's possible to drill new locations lower on the tower to insert the racks, or what kind of problems that might cause?

You can get the swivel but only use them when the bimini is not open...

The problem is the swivel racks were designed after the tower, original racks and bimini were already in production.

That can be done I have seen many BU's with 2 sets of racks on the tower there is no reason why you cant do it on your tower.
