    new Tige owner w/questions

    Hey Fellas,

Just brought home a 2002 21V LTD that had been in the works for a while. In between, I joined this site and did a lot of reading, great info, very informative. Bought the boat from the original owners and it is in great shape, very well taken care of. I just finished pampering it yesterday - wash, wax, vacuumed everywhere, cleaner/protectant on all vinyl, etc...lot of work but worth it, not to mention the cold ones I had to put down to keep me going!

Anyway, long story short, looks like I lost a caliper bolt on the passenger side disc brake on the trailer - Extreme trailer. Pulling into the driveway on Friday I heard a loud noise and thought it was perhaps just the brakes dragging or something. Busy until yesterday with the kids' activities and that is when I noticed that the caliper is just kind of hanging. I am familiar with mechanical car components but these disc brake calipers appear to be a bit different. Anyone have a similar issue like this? I am assuming that I have to track down a similar bolt and re-attach the caliper? Not sure if any other parts may have come off, will have to do a thorough check. Other than that, boat/trailer trailered well and I am very happy with the purchase.

    Here are a few pics:

Nice ride! Welcome to the site. I'll let some of the other more qualified mechanics give you advice on your brakes

      Welcome! Nice looking boat! Congratulations!

Sorry, I'm no help with Extreme Trailers but you will likely get a qualified response from someone soon.

None of the trailer manufacturers make their own brakes, they will probably be either kodiaks or tie-down engineering. Both companies sell parts directly, just not whole brake kits. I'd get onto their websites and identify what you have. You can call extreme trailers with your serial and see if they know exactly what was put on your trailer, but that could have been changed by the previous owner. If you can post a shot of the caliper that might help us too. I've had both tie down and kodiak disc brakes on recent trailers and might be able to identify them. Welcome to the site and the tige family, enjoy the boat.

Nice boat! I have a 99 21i riders edition with a similar trailer but no problems on the calipers but the hydraulic action on my brake reservoir gives me trouble every now and again. i would highly reccomend bleeding those lines whenever you get the calipers put back together.

I suggest changing the brake fluid completely.

Thanks fellas. I plan on doing a lot of trips this coming summer with the family. Have a steep learning curve ahead of me, but just by doing a lot of reading here and I think I will have a good head start. The owners set me up with all the equipment necessary to get started: vest, ropes, wakeboards, bumpers, (2) tubes, etc. so for now it is just a matter of having the boat serviced and then hitting the lakes.

Yes, I need to crawl underneath and find out exactly what type of brake system I have. Got a call in to a mechanic buddy who with any luck will know how to fix it.

Have a lot more questions, but for now, I will do some searches and see if i can't find my answers there. If not, forgive a newbie for coming back and asking a lot of basic questions.

Okay, one more picture for the road...(you know how it is, new toy!)

Just take it slow. Everything moves slow around the launch ramp
