Getting a boat in the garage.

I am looking to see if anyone knows how, and what's required, or even if it is possible, to get a boat off of the trainer and then moved into a garage.

My trailer is definitely too long to fit, but I know the boat would fit just fine. But how do I get it in there?

    Thanks in advance.

Oh, and my trailer is also too wide. That's why I need to get the boat off the trailer first.

I believe the boat storage companies use big fork lifts with long forks.

Have you thought about how you would get it back out of the garage onto the trailer
each time you want to use it? Or is this a one time thing to do some off season work?
If its not fun, Why do it?

Just for storage in the winter, so really just put it in at the end of the season and out in the Spring.

How about getting the frame of a hydrohoist and put wheels on it instead of the pontoons? You would need to put rollers on the bunks so the carpet does not get pulled off from the friction of pulling the boat across.

I hope you have a flat driveway!

Man, this sounds like more trouble than it's worth. You would be better off renting a storage unit. I don't know how much they run up there but, I have a 12 x 30 that I pay $90.00 a month for 1.5 miles from he ramp.

I would say boat dollies would be the way to go for this job. At boat shows we use "Cranes" that pick the boats up off the trailer and then sit them on the dollies then after the shows over we roll the cranes back over the boats, pick them up, and slide the trailers back under. Seems like a lot of work though like what has been said and a storage building would be much easier.

Hmm. No cranes at the house. Sounds like this could indeed be a tricky job. Even with the dollies, there is the issue of getting it on and off the trailer. I would store it but I would like to be able to work on it during the winter. There are plenty of projects I could be working on if it was in the garage.

I would say if you have the room do what I did. I bought a steel carport tall enough so I don't have to take the tower down and enclose the side. The only part that is open is the front and I put a tarp across the front in the winter. I also built storage over head so when the boat is back in I just open the door and put everything up. I have hangers for my lifevest and other items that need to dry. My boat stays out of the weather and nice and dry. It sits right aside of my house.

It might be cheaper to just install a bigger garage door. Ya never know....just a thought. With so many skilled laborers out of work, you should find plenty of help for cash. I was going to buy a large portable tent, but city said NO DEAL, their temporay and you "will" be taking it down. I do know that taking a boat on and off the trailer using conventional means is a pain in the AZZ!
