Blisters are a not uncommon and there are lots of things that contribute and or increase suspibilty to them. Thickness of gelcoat, layup thickness and schedule, even the type of resin has an an effect if I remember right. Fresh water is actually worst then salt (small molecules)
If you Google it there is tons of info on the web. If a boat gets them quickly there is another underlying issue, boats don't blister super fast even left unpainted. But if you leave it in the water for months there is good chance you will get them.

haven't done it in years, but we used to leave our boats in the water from mid april until mid october. We'd take them out maybe once a year or so. My question for Gpuch is, how often did you use it? I'd think a boat that sits in the water unused for a month is going to suffer a lot more than one that is used every 4 or 5 days. We've found that the boat doesn't really get any growth on it when it's being used regularly, but it gets a lot if it just sits.
