Bu's auto wedge, gas and saftey improved

Just came across this video of the new Bu, they talk about the power wedge new function, auto wedge. "To save gas, Malibu has introduced the Auto Wedge that reduces the time it takes to get on plane and reduces deflect angle when turning, reducing fuel consumption by up to one-third. For safety reasons, the wedge can only be operated while the boat is in gear."

So to their own accord the previous wedge drag mechanism puts enough strain on the boat that slightly adjusting it on cornering saves 1/3 the gas. How much gas does it use during nl functions. Also apparently it is not safe when boat is out of gear.

At the Tulsa boat show, which they claim is one of the top 10-15 largest boat shows inland in the country, and I would believe it, took us nearly 2 hours to walk the parameter with out getting on any boats, anyway the Bu's where there, they seem to have alot of metal speakers, rails, cup holders in the seat, I wonder what they feel like when it is 100 degrees and sunny outside on your bare skin. The new LCD monitor that they have in the dash does look cool, however, I wonder if you can see it when the boat is out in the direct sun light. Boat does have alot of bling bling attention getting though. How functional it all is with the above mention is another issue.

The safety thing with the wedge is that when the wedge is moving upward, they want to make sure no one is behind the boat, so it can only be moved up when the boat is in gear to assure the boat is moving away from any swimmers or boarders behind the transom. My friend and I found this out the hard way when we put the wedge down in his driveway and then it would not move up. We discovered it was not broke, just has to be in gear to move up.

I think that there are a lot of reasons to buy various boats, but if you are dropping 70K on a boat and then worried about the gas, you are probably stretched a bit too thin. I know that there a few guys out there who put 300 hours on in a summer, but they are definitely the exception, not the rule.

The Malibu people told me the glare on the Maliview is a non-issue, but I can't help but like analog guages better. If the maliview breaks, I am not sure you can even operate any of the basic functions of the boat.
    Be excellent to one another.

Looking on their website, it looks like the there is two analog gauges on either side, most likely tach and speedo, will go back on Sunday and see. The VLX was a "special" price of only 76599.

With all of the work that takes setting up a booth extra, does anyone have any sort of guess on how many boats sell at a boat show, there were several with sold signs on, whether they were truly sold or not is anybody's guess.

Even with out the Maliview you still can see all your guages. But what you will lose would be the speed set and rider presets etc. Not the functions of the wedge and ballast though, but im not sure.

I have not seen it direct sunlight but I have heard that it is still clearly visible.

The guages malibu uses are the same as tige.
        Medallion guages

Some boats are already sold before the show and are waiting to be delivered/picked up by the customer and the dealer will ask permission to put it on display.

I will say this, the maliview really catches the eye of passerbys, they always had a small crowd around it talking about the dashboard. It looks similar to the Nissan GTR info screen the way they had the virtual gauge cluster set up on it. I am not for sure on how many times I would think that I really need to watch a video while I am driving a boat, but I guess if it causes you to stop and stare, it has done its job.

I wonder if they licensed this tech for the glare:

We have the XR-1 models at work and it is amazingly effective.

This is the Maliview dash we are referring to, FWIW. ZAD's pic is of an 07 or 08 dash I think.

I think the maliview would be cool to have. The ability to play dvd's would be the best part. Watching Detention 2012 for beginers or trying to stick a new trick would be helpful, or giving tired kids something to do while the adults hang out. Having never riden in a malibu I can't say anything about their boat. They are sharp looking though, I will give them that. Give credit where credit is due.

LCD "MUX" switch. It controls everything! Horn, heater, stereo, ballast tanks, wedge etc. and its all programmable.

I went to the medallion website and you can purchase any of that stuff for your own boat. You can make that stuff control anything you want. Pretty cool. I am sure it is $$$$$$ though.

I found out this past weekend that the video screen can do more than just replay video.
The dealer I talked to had a very small camrea on the tower facing the rear of the boat. The camrea did a live feed right to the dash so the screen acted like a rearview mirrior, it also displayed speed and anything else you need at the very bottom of the screen.
