There is circumferential degloving of the long and index finger that would again contradict a blow type force. Could be farm related, though, not an auger (live in oklahoma, so we see ALOT of auger injuries), also could be a factory worker, lots of different types of press machinery out there. Seen my fare share of prop injuries, most of lower extremities and trunks, very few hand injuries because it is difficult to "fall" into a prop.
I don't know much about boats, but I am fairly sharp in the traumatic wound field and that is no prop injury.
FYI for CYA:
I would recommend removing the picture due to the fact that it could be an unauthorized pic that is currently being used or used in a trial or lawsuit. I have seen many of nurses and staff fired and a few had suits pressed against them about taking unauthorized pics of funny or interesting wounds, even though they did not carry any type of identification.I'm going old school- I'm bring back the SKURFER!!!!!!

Special K is ruining all of the fun. That pic has been circulated for years as a prop injury, and I have never seen another documented prop injury wakesurfing.
In medical school I got to do a rotation with the state medical examiner. We saw a guy who they dredged up off the bottom of Lake Powell who got ran over by a prop...It sure did not look like the picture above. I think it would be best to post the picture with a disclaimer: 'Your hand may or may not look like this after the prop gets a hold of it, individual results will vary.'
To be fair to the I/O guys...I have never heard or seen of an injury wakesurfing behind an I/O.
Have any of you ever had first hand knowledge of a guy falling into his prop?
We did have a local college football player out tubing a few years back who thought it would give extra grip if he wrapped the rope around his wrist when he got some slack in the tube rope. The rope went tight and his hand went straight to the bottom of the lake. Divers never could find the hand.Last edited by talltigeguy; 02-03-2009, 06:22 PM.Be excellent to one another.

Ok so I can't delete it now so
Disclaimer: 'Your hand may or may not look like this after the prop gets a hold of it, individual results will vary.'
Either way you will not be the same after.
I thought about trying wakesurfing behind my old I/O. hell I even would pull myself up next to the boat but I never did like seeing the prop that up closeI'm going old school- I'm bring back the SKURFER!!!!!!

You guys take all the risks you want. My appendages have come to mean a great deal to me and my way of life. I have no interest in parting with them(or significant pieces of them) just so I can buy a boat with better reversing capabilities. The fable of losing digits may or may not be true, but I'll be damned if I am going to be the one who finds out it is true. I've been married for 15+ years, if I didn't have my hands I'd get NO lovin............Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

I think we all agree it is not a prop injury, and would all agree that I/O would be less than ideal to surf behind. When looking at boats, I was more concerned of what I think is a more of a real possibility other than "falling" into a prop, is when you, or especially your kids, kids friends, friends friend ect are getting in an out of the water and/or swimming near the back, which most people who boat do a fair amount, that the boat is not accidently turned on and engaged in gear when someone is behind the boat. In my 22ve, I am 6'1" and I have to put my chest all the way up to the transom, then swing my legs completely under, around the rudder to touch the prop. ( I did this when on the trailer and when in water ( I had the keys and the kill switch in my pocket, as well as the breakers swithced, I have kids under 4 y/o so go to take precautions). If you are on an I/O your body would rest against the prop every time that someone got out. No way would I ever consider that a possibility for a water sport boat.
In very scientific conclusion, I guess if you wanted to spay or neuter your guest, then an I/O is the way to go.The worst day of boating is still the better than the best day of work......, unless you bend your prop.

you know when you go to a inboard website, they always talk about saftey is one of the main reason to get a inboard over a I/O.
The I/O argument about them being better of a I/O is that you can drive backwards and get better fuel effiency.
I also like the acceleration test. I would like them to do that again but with the ballest filled up on both.
I don't know about you but i agree with Jason i would like to keep all my appendages.

Performance - my (prior) I/O had some steering in reverse and higher top end speed but slower holeshot and wider turning radius. It really depends on what is important to the owner.
Whether I can go 44 or 49 mph doesn't really matter to me...we don't cruise at WOT!
