Its funny how a lot of people want louder music on their boat. I like music, but I don't need the fishermen to listen to my music. And I sure as hell don't want to listen to theirs.

The boat I just bought has (2) 12s in a huge f*ing box and (2) amps. The box is so big I have to pull the front seat out and 1/2 of the dash. If anyone wants to help me pull them out I will give you the subs and box...honestly!

If you really don't like it just take a rotozip to the box and take it out piece by piece. That may end up being easier in the long run.

I have the Wetsounds XS12 in my boat. I built the box right at 1 cubic foot and sealed it. I used bilge paint to paint and seal the box. I am running the sub on the ARC 900.6 sub channels bridged. Prior to my reconfigure on my amps I had it on a 900.2 Bridged. It sounds flat out amazing on any rang of music I play. I play music from Rap for the kids, Rock for my self and kids, Country for my self.. The bass range is there and perfect for all situations. My son of course thinks we need to add three more subs I am not sure why but he is a major bass freak. I would think that if I built a ported box I would get more of that lower range that he likes so much. But this is not his boat. It is my wife and I and we like the range of music so we went with sealed when I built the box. Plus I don't know that I would have been able to get the 1.4 Cu Feet box that I would have had to build for a ported box in the space I have this 1 Cu foot box in.

I would go with sealed. I think you will be satisfied with the sound. I can for sure feel the bass in my chest when it is pounding.

                Kana,

Do you already have the amp? Also, do you already have a sub amp?

I prefer a ported box. You should have enough room to do the ported box. For any of them. As far as a single 12 inch under the dash. I have a XS-XXX under the dash on the Wet Sounds demo boat.

To do the dual 12 inch. The second would need to be located probably under the glove box and you would want to port the area so the sub can vent into the boat. So it would need a bit more work.

Ported boxes in boats are done all the time, you just have to make sure to resin the enclosure inside and out. Use some fiberglass resin on the entire thing. Then you can carpet it. Another good tip is to mount the box with some spacers on the bottom. You can use rubber or a plastic. This is so the box is never sitting right on the floor. So it can dry out

One thing about the ported enclosures is woofer choice. As there will be moisture hitting the back side of the woofer as well as the front. So make sure to look for something that has a cast frame and NOT stamped steel. The 2 you mentioned are both cast. As with the XS-XXX

For example, we take it a step farther by using a powder coated cast frame, coated tinsel leads, gold plated binding posts, rubber spider, thermo formed surround and cone and high temp voice coil former with special adhesive

So the front of the subs are marine as well as the back. All the same stuff is done on the XS-650 in boat speakers as well.

This is so you can run ported boxes for the woofers and since the in boats always get hit with moisture.
