    Wakeboard Demo Challenge

Tigé Boats announced last week that it is accepting Malibu’s “Truth is on the Water Challenge.” BoatTEST.com can attest to the fact that Tigé has always encouraged prospective buyers to demo their boats -- as well as their competitions’ -- before buying; something that is quite unusual for ski/wakeboard builders. These two brands have different handling characteristics and, in our opinion, the only way to truly discover which boat one feels more comfortable with is to demo them both. As part of BoatTEST.com's Member Services program we will arrange for special demos for BoatTEST members of both Tigé and Malibu boats. Simply fill out the form and you will be contacted --

It will be interesting to hear feedback from the people testing the boat. IMOHowever, it would have been even cooler if all manufacturers did this and took the challenge. If more companies were in this, I would think that you would get a better outcome and a more controlled enviroment where the potential buyer can really take a hard look at all the boats not just 2.

I work at an MC dealer, we participate in a similar event called Dare To Compare. It is a fair and open event hosted by a third party to which all dealers are invited. This event is free to prospective buyers, it is advertised and is in a central location convienent for all participating dealers.

This Malibu deal is fairly lame, no one contacted us with dates, times, etc. Its a way for them to say "well we left it open but no one wanted to go head to head with us" I call shenanigans on the entire thing.

My local Tige dealer challenged the local Malibu dealer to bring out a 247 LSV vs. the RZ4 for a customer that was having trouble deciding and they hemmed and hawed but finally did it. The customer went with the RZ4 after driving them back-to-back.

Thats pretty cool! I have no problems taking someone out on a demo, we do it all the time. Last summer I had two guys shopping the 247 and the X-45 and we did the demo thing, one bought a X-45 and the other is still hangin out with no boat.

My issue is that Malibu basically calling everyone out when everyone is already demoing customers.

It's their way of "advertising" apparently. So, does that mean Tige called their bluff?

I like the concept of this and think it is good for all manufacturers who participate.

But I can say this...we have a demo days in Phoenix where about 6-8 brands are represented at the same lake on a weekend in spring and unfortunately I still see dealer sales tactics play a big role. I have literally seen a person sold on brand x, walk past brand y and get lured in, and then have their minds change over to brand y.

To a person buying a boat the first time, they don't know how to react to a salesperson saying, "you know that wedge thing falls off and rips the transom off" or "there board racks fall off and decapitate people".

If I remember right, Tige has a 90% close rate after demo's when a customer is torn between two brands. I think I'd be pushing for the demo too! LOL.
