The engines are still GM as they are the only ones building marinized blocks, but Merc went away in like 04-05 I think, and PCM for 09. (with some early 09's having MP's available as they still had some in inventory)

Dude, you gotta test drive one and you will change your mind. There is a noticeable difference between the new PCM and the older PCM/MP/Merc in terms of noise. You can usually hear a Tige a mile away. Not so any more. It is the quietest boat out there.

The PCM uses a single exhaust and a different baffle setup then MP.

As far as "way more powerful" as posted earlier, HP is HP and I'll bet the MP has a better torque curve then PCM. I'd love to see both, but no one publishes them. Ive driven a CC 236 (heavier then my 22Ve) with the pcm 390 (more hp and more cubes) and I'll put my MP up against a PCM any day. better hole shot, quicker acceleration, better MPG's. Not knocking the PCM's so no one needs to get their panties in a wade but the PCM 343 just doesn't hold a candle to a MP IMPO.

Ok, just double checked the PCM website, and they list the TQ for the 343 as 430, but do not give an RMP for that spec, so it's not really worth a darn. Need to what the specs are at the normal RPM range that we run at.

                      It's all about the mufflers.

My friend's 2004 Malibu 350 GM Vortec motor was a lot quieter than our 2000 MAG MPI Mercruiser. The Malibu has 2 large mufflers packed in there to cut the noise. Ours is a little quieter than the Malibu after installing an FAE.

The guys at OBD Diagnostics say the engine control data for the Mercruisers is very conservative and tend to run rich to keep the valves cool. I have a spare MEFI programmed with the Ramjet data they say will probably make a noticeable difference. I haven't plugged it in, yet, because our boat has plenty of power. Especially, after gearing down a ratio with an Acme #537. There are so many variables - prop, cam, valve size, port size, computer data tables, weight, altitude, air mass, hull design - it is really difficult to make comparisons. I just wish they would quit changing stuff all the time so finding parts would be easier.

Keep in mind the initial reason for the switch to PCM engines. Catalytic Converters. California is a large part of Tigé's distribution and PCM offers not only catalytic converters, but they are also the best and longest tested design.

Add to the fact that PCM's renowned quality, customer service, dealer support, and marketing support....the switch was a natural progression in our efforts to make the best/highest quality boat on the market!

Sure wish they would have kept the dual exhaust. It looks funny at least to me with a single exhaust.

Ya but you would have to be under water to see the exhaust , so whats the problem, ha,ha,ha, just kidding, I personally liked the throtty sound of an american V8 with duals.

So the catalytic converter choking the engine is what makes it quieter?
Being mandatory equipment now don't they all sound the same?
