    Lake Mojave

I'm thinking about dropping my ride in the waters of Lake Mojave for Spring Break.

Who's been to Mojave in the Spring? Good idea? Bad idea? Indifferent?

I'm trying to decide between Mead, Powell, or Mojave, and from the nps.gov web site, it looks like Mojave has the warmest water.

    Your thoughts?

Spring break doesn't effect those areas as much. G-money really knows the Mohave area. I hate it up in that area personally, and don't ever ever ever try to launch on a Saturday or Sunday morning.

Your dates will help a lot and where you are planning on staying. I like the lower river below Mohave better and do all of my boating below the Needles area all the way to Havasu. There is some nice camping at Park Moabi which has a great launch. Close to the Sandbar and very close to Topack. Mead is very nice as well.

You will have no problem at Lake Mohave over spring break however the water will be cold and if the wind blows it can be a challenge to use the lake. There are three launch areas available one of which is not paved. (Katherines Landing, Telephone Cove and Princess Cove.) We usually stay at the lodge in Katherines Landing because it is convenient. Hotels in Laughlin are much cheaper but we are usually on the water from sun up to sun down and it is nice to be in your hotel room 5 minutes after parking the boat. Laughlin is only a 20 minute drive away and offers alot to do.

We do 95% of our boating on Mojave, coach is 100% right it's a PINA but I guess we love the pain. If you launch at cottonwood cove it is super low key, katherines Landing is a mad house unless you have 4x4 and then you can launch at telephone cove on the dirt ramp. It can take up to 2 hr to pull your boat during peak season weekends. On the same weekend it takes 10 min at telephone cove and 2 mins at cottonwood. The lake is large but gets blown out everyday we hit the water around 6:30-7 for good water and by 9 it's whitecaps most of the time. After we are done boarding we just hit cove and drink, play horseshoes, listen to music all day and just relax.

The water in Powell will still be pretty cold then and probably not usable by most people without suits of some sort.

If you have a family, there are some parts of Havasu/Mojave that can be too much for young kids during spring break.

Can I suggest dropping your ride down here in Tampa and join myself and 5 boys for a week at Big Pines Key where the water should be between 79F and 82F??? Our spring break is March 28th thru April 5th. We rented a 2 bedroom apartment at Big Pines Sport Fishing Lodge. They have plenty of camp sites if you want to go less expensive. It would be great to have wakeboard folks join us. I forgot to mention......the water is crystal blue and Tarpon will be running that time of the year down there.

Windy & Crowded. Better be on the water by 5 to avoid the line to launch the boat at katherine's and get some good water.

Thanks for the input. Spring Break is April 11-18.

Are there boat slips to rent anywhere? Boat-in, Boat-out campsites? I'd rather not be pulling my boat in & out each morning and evening.

We kick off the season at lake Mead every year about the same time. Water is around 70f and air is 70sto 80s maybe low 90s. Here are a few pics from last year mid april, mid 80s and all alone. Good year

We go out ever year around that time.
Not to bad, but like others have said, be at the ramp early. We leave the hotel around 6am and hardly ever wait to launch. The water is really nice until about 11am, then the winds pick up and make some nice little swells about 1 – 2 foot. Just before sunset the water gets flat, but you only have about a 1 hour window for nice rides. The wind mostly comes from the south, so the water is the best next to the dam.

The only thing that sucks, is had back surgery during the holidays, So I wont be able to board until around June this year. We are still heading out there, as we have family in both Kingman & Bullhead.

bummer as least you will be able to ride this year.

Our first big trip in in June most likely around the 12-14.

We might make a few trips in late April early May
