Steering cable over the gas tank?

How many of you run the steering cable over the gas tank?

Have you ever had any problems running it this way?

Have you noticed an increase in the cables longevity?

Does anyone see a problem with running it on top?

I dont see this increasing the life of a cable. The rudder end of the cable is the end that is most vulnerable to water intrusion. This end is still mounted at the same level in the bilge regardless of how the rest of the cable is routed. The rest of the cable, such as the part run over the gas tank, is covered in the plastic sheath. It should be shielded from water unless the sheath is compromised by damage or a sharp object cutting it.

Running the cable on top of the tank takes the dip out of the cable and puts an upward bow in the cable. That stops the water from flowing deep into the cable and starting the seizing of the cable to the housing.

        Check this out. Cable Replacement
