Whats the scoop on the Z1

I sold my 03 20v just before my son was born knowing we would not use it during the pregnancy and while he was an infant. Well he just turned two and loves the water. I planned on a 22ve but saw the Z1 and now its got me thinking. It’s a great looking boat and want the low down on it from people that know. Cant beat the price but how does it perform? We spend a lot of time at lake Powell so can it handle the channel on memorial day weekend? What sort of options are a must? Ect…

Z1 is an awesome boat. I haven't boarded behind it yet, but have surfed it a few times and I'm really impressed with the wave. Doesn't handle the chop quite as well as the 22Ve, as expected, and hard to say it's much better then the 20V. The extra beam and length really show in the main cabin, but the bow is a little narrow (compared to the 22Ve). If you were comfortable on Powell in the 20V you should be every bit as comfortable in the Z1, but IMO, i'd say go for the 22Ve just because Powell is big water.

Options: what year model are you looking at, 08, 09, ordering 09?

I guess I do need to clarify that I have an 06 22Ve (200+ hrs/3 seasons) and wouldn't trade it for anything, right now . If factors such as lake limits, price, tow weight, etc, put me in the 20'-21' foot boat, I would own a Z1 hands down compared to the comp. If I didnt have those factors, I would probably still own the 22Ve.

The wake behind the Z1 is great at 70' and surf wake is better than most IMO. If you want to save $7K over a 22Ve you will not be dissapointed. The only problem we ever had was when we went out after work for a couple sets and it was just 2 of us w/ no ballast it wants to porpus at 23.5mph. Easy fix w/ lead bars or a bow sac.
We pulled the INT w/ a Z1 that had 400lbs lead in bow & 600 lbs in lockers for a 1000 total + 4 person crew, and the riders loved it.

Since your family is growing, I would recommend that you consider the biggest boat you can get.

I don't think any wakeboard boat can handle the channel at Powell better than another. I think it is mostly driver ability. When that tour boat goes by and there are 5 foot rollers, it doesn't matter if you are in a Z1 or Z4.

Do what I do at Powell. Avoid the channel at all costs, hope the CRC is open, and if you do have to go through the channel make sure you are through it before 9AM.

We put 120 hrs on our new Z1 this summer and I would say we were very happy with the ski wake, the wake board wake was decent but I would like to put sacks in for next year, the surf was ok too but sacs would make a nice difference. Still we are very happy with this muti purpose boat. It does a lot of things very well out of the box.

We almost bought a Z1 but my wife like the 22ve better. She made the right choice. I asked my self the question before I bought "is the 22ve really worth 9K more?" Now that I look back I think so. If the money is a concern the Z1 is still a great boat.

If you compare 09's then you are looking at a price increase for the 22Ve. But if you want a smokin' deal, right now is a good time to be a boat buyer. There are plenty of new 08's and even a few 07's that might be available, for less than what you would pay for a Z1.

They used to have this advertised for 42K.

                      Trivalley marine in Livermore California.

Your dealer would be hard pressed to blame you for getting that boat.
                      Be excellent to one another.

Thanks for the advice, Looks like I cant go wrong with either boat. Thats what I wanted to hear. I'll just be patient and wait for a good deal on a boat with color and options I can live with. If you guys see anything send em my way.

Keep in mind that there's not an option that cant be added i.e stereo, shower, heater, ballast, etc

Can you list what options would be your ideal boat? That would definitely help since my dealer still has a huge inventory that they are trying to get rid of.
