Here are 3 pics of our home lake Lake Wylie. It borders 3 counties and both NC and SC. It's about 17 miles long (13 is really only considered the lake) from dam to dam and is 1 of 7 lakes created along the Catawba River by Duke Energy.
The first pic is the Northern end of the lake, beyond here is mostly river and can get shallow and hazardous. You will also see where the Southfork River comes in. Up the Southfork is where we have a Hot Hole created by the power plant. Summer time water temps are about 100*, winter time, water can be hi 60's when they are pumping. Our lake is highly developed, most of which is South, but growing to the North. We have about 5 free public landings. We can launch at any part of the lake within 25 min drive of the house. 2 party spots, 1 North, 1 South, and only 1 restaurant which is now wet on Sundays, finally For those that dont know, dry means no alcohol sales, very common around here to have no sales on Sunday.
2nd pic is the middle part of the lake. This is where our dealership is and the restaurant is located directly across the channel from it. Just across the cove from the marina is the NBA's Larry Johnson's house. The Sanbar is about a 10 min ride North from the marina, or 10 min South from one of the ramps.
3rd pic is the South end of the lake and IMO, the nicest. Lost of clean water down here as the North end is more river and the water tends to look muddier. Lots of fingers to cruise in and drop anchor for a quite day, or head to the "adult" sandbar for a party. There are 2 Islands with nice sandy beaches to chill on, but are day use only. To many campers trashing them up in past years.
Just North of where we live, we have Mtn Island Lake and Lake Norman that we hit once in a while, they are also Duke Energy lakes.
