    Mastercraft offering $25,000 cash back

I got an email that said MC is offering 25K cash back.

I wonder what kind of gimmick this is?

If a 24SS list at $100K, take $25K off that..........$75K is what is "really" worth.

Seems everyone catching onto Obamaism. Just tell them what they want to hear.

    Should work!

I dont think they just cut you a check when you buy the boat, or even give you the $25k off the price either. Odds are you have to buy @ MSRP in order qualify, then you have to wait 3 yrs and jump through a bunch of hoops to get it.

Kinda like the "Employee Pricing" bs from the auto makers. There is no negotiation, price is set, and at times, higher then what one can walk in and negotiate

Malibu did something similar a few years ago but you got the rebate after 3 years if I remember correctly. However, with the over inflated price of the bigger MC boats (24'+) it might be legit to offer $25k back?

I agree and will say that they probably already added $25k to the boat to make up the amount that they are going to give you. It would be interesting to see what the markup amount of any boat but especially MC right now.

Just read a good post about this on WW. The boats are prolly marked up the ~3K that the program costs. This is a good deal if you want an MC and are perfect with records keeping. If you can't do rebates well, that is likely a clear message to steer clear.

It's legit. I talked to a dealer about it. His opinion was that it was good for some people but not others. I think you have to jump through a few hoops to be able to collect. I'm pretty sure it's not done directly through MC. It's a company that does these on all sorts of products.

Something like this.... "up to $25k" which means that on the smaller boats it will be less. Take a $100k+ X-80... You will buy it for close to if not full MSRP, lets just say $100k to keep the numbers round. They will take $25k of the $100k and invest it in a 3 year anuity or something similar. After 3 years they take the $25k and give it back to you. It has earned interest for them over the 3 years so they are not taking much of a hit at all. You have over paid for the boat for 3 years and let them earn interest on YOUR money.

At todays rate they would only earn about $3K on the money. MC would still take a $22K hit.

I think it is more of some accounting trickery. They sold the boat and can now put the sale on the books. Three years later they would take the hit on the money owed but that does not affect the current years books. It will make their profit look much better.

What if 2.5 years down the road MC decides to file chapter 11. Your $25K now becomes an unsecured debt and you will never see the money. MC wins and you lose.

                        .
The dealer and MC will share in the cost of the rebate, so at the end of the day, the dealer nets about the same %, but made a sale that he otherwise, may not have made. Plus, there is a chance that the buyer will not fulfil the terms of the deal, and not receive the $25k rebate. In this case, MC has sold the boat to the dealer at regular dealer cost, and dealer sold to customer at MSRP, about a 35% deal maybe.

Over three years that works out to $42.00 a month, about $2.00 per day. I guess it is better than nothing when you can shaft your customers into paying full price.
I have know inside or personal knowledge of the MC rebate deal, but I do kinda understand how these typically work between Manf's and franchise dealers. I doubt the dealer will profit from the deal, other then the GP off the sale of the boat, like normal. But, IF the customer fulfills the requirements and gets the said $25k, the cost of the program will be shared by both the dealer and MC. If the $25k is not awarded to the customer, then there is no "real" cost, so it would look like a normal deal on the manf/dealer side, and be a NICE sale on the dealer/customer side as the boat was probably sold at MSRP before rebate.
