New Bu Brand???

I figured it out! malibu really wanted a pickle fork, but wanted to save all the copycat comments so started a new brand to do it under.

You might be thinking of the trihull craze that came about in the late 60's early 70's. Not quite the same thing. What we see in the tow boat industry today, a pickle/V hybrid, was originally designed for Cobalt, who didn't really push it's sales. Soon after he designed it, he sold the idea to Mastercraft who, very wisely, pushed the crap out of it while sales we're hot. I think it's a great idea and would by one today if I could but, it is by no means originated by MC, or even Cobalt. It was one guy who put pen to paper.

That is pretty cool info about Cobalt & MC. Something I never really looked into. I was actually thinking back to those 1st race boats w/ the enormous outboards that they called "pickle forks". I know that MC especially Zane gave Tige' a bunch of crap for imitating their "pickle fork" but I had thought it just one of those things that had been around for years and MC just perfected it a little and remarketed the concept.

My father purchased a tri-hull back in 78’; he loved that boat so he kept it around as the party boat for @ least 10 yrs.

Those are actually tunnels. They have two tunnels, on either side of a narrow center section, that run the entire length of the hull, that trap air and gives the hull lift. They are either outboard or jet configurations and nicknamed "Pickle Forks". These are not to be confused with Hydoplanes or Hydros which are flat bottom with two sponsons at the front the run only half the length of the boat. The early designs actually look like spade and called Hydroplanes. It was later that they notched out the center and ended up being what we see today in Unlimited Hydroplanes and Top Fuel drag boats, the latter being known as "Hydros".

Boat construction and value definately go to Tige, but stock wake on a Malibu is just about perfect. There is no need to add anything to the 247 or the 23LSV. I have no experience with the newer VLX..

Then I guess the WW Tools need the extra 3K in order to compensate. In no way was I making a negative remark toward the Malibu wake, just seems that they rave about how great of a wake their boats produce, then you find out how much the add on top of stock to get it

Let's define entry-level for any manufacturer..... that means USED in my book.....

It seems entry level for MC is $70K. Their not the leat bit shy to ask $100K for a 24 foot boat. Ok, lets say we get a deal at $90K, that's still out of reach for the middle class.

This means used boats sales will outperfom new the next few years.

I have been in a stock Malibu 247 and a stock 23LSV with power wedge and no additional ballast and it is the real deal. Most agree the 247 from the factory has the best wake out there, as far as stock boats go. Seems it is the X-star guys who put 3k ballast in their boats and then state how it is better than anything else.

The 247 does put up a nice wake. . I also have been in a 23XTI and it puts out a nice wake also. But you do have to add ballast to the 23XTI or it makes a ski wake.

I still like my TIGE thought. The main reason. I own it no debt to the boat world other than crazy maintenance. And I am thankful I know how to do that part of it other than Gel-Coat Repairs.

I have heard that from lots of people to that the stock 247 is an amazing wake. I have no first hand experience, and don't want to. I really don't need to know what I am missing. As for my 23LSV, I have had lots of compliments on the stock wake. I have had many riders who ride competitively take pulls behind my boat and then not believe it was just stock. Of course, we had full gas and about 6 or 7 in the boat. This is also when people come in after their set and say "that wake was insane".

As for the X-Star. It is a great wake and I love riding behind them. But it's distinction comes from being able to add 3K more and still hold the same shape(long ramp, clean, and a nice kick). Most boat's wakes don't handle this amount of weight very well. They tend to get very steep and curl over and act more like a wall.

Personally, I don't care and I don't get into the best wake arguments. Just give me a clean and consistent wake and I am happy. But I think there is a reason for some of the MC and Bu hype. Look at DHarf and his 1080 and 1260. All were done behind a MC or a Bu and who is he been sponsored by, CC. Does it mean that he couldn't have done it in a CC or a Tige. Who knows.
