08 Inland Surfer Blue Lake - QUAD FIN

This is on BBB for 300 clams. Anyone have any experience with this board? It seems like I remember reading good things about it but now I can't find the posts.

That price is significantly cheaper than retail. Christmas may come early for ME!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?

Ok, 3 posts, but still no info on the relative merits of the board. Pros or cons?

I have one and Ragboy has one that I am aware of.

I like it. It's not a "make me a professional" board IMO but it works exactly what it should do. I would suggest it for sure...

                I pulled the trigger..

Any way, one thing that kinda bothers me is that it does not seem to come with the extra set of fins, according to IS website they have to be purchased separately which I think is dumb... It should come with 4 thrusters, and then if you want you can get the optional ones.. Fins are not cheap either so maybe Surf Dad or someone that has used a quad fin set up can give some advise on what to stick in the extra fin boxes.. and what the net effect is.

That is funny, this offering has shown up everywhere.

The Blue is a solid board. Not much in the way of rocker, so it's a down-the-line speed oreinted board. It won't turn as well as boards with more rocker...airs will be hard also...but that isn't the target market for this board. It's for folks that are better than newbs and enjoy turning a little bit and going faster, plus it's sized for a wide range of folks - makes a great "one board for the boat" choice.

The quad fins will do two things. Make the board go a tiny bit faster down the line when pumping, and in this format (A-frame) make turns more quick. When just trimming (remaining stationary on the wake) you might feel the board is a bit slower than without the extra fins due to increased drag. My guess is that there isn't that much demand for the extra fins and so IS doesn't make the extra fins standard.

Good price for that board, I'd hold off on the extra fins until you've ridden it. If you feel the board configured as a twin is slow, or you want it more responsive in turns, then order up the extra fins.

I have used the regular Blue all summer, ( well that and my Red Tide)so I am use to it, The reason I ordered it was ( I thought it was you) someone had said the quad fin will give more "drive" and would make staying in the pocket a bit easier when falling behind.. So i want to order the extra fins right away to complete my board, and see the difference between the regular and the quad. Now just have to decide what to try and why..

                    Thanks in advance

Hey KS, it will give you more drive if you're riding it, not trimming. If you're standing on it...or...leaning forward which is basically trimming the board, the extra fins won't make the board go faster while trimmed. Drive is the propulsion from pumping or turning the board. Many folks want a board that is faster while trimmed and that typically can come from a bigger board, more surface area (so things like a deeper concave) or less rocker. However, it won't come from bigger or more fins. Fins, while the board is trimmed, typically only increase drag.

If you're pumping and turning on the Blue and want more drive, the additional fins will help.

I've surfed out in the ocean for over 16 years and can tell you a quad is a completely different feeling, what kind of tail do you have? I can't relate to behind a boat but here is my experience with a real wave. Like SurfDad stated its a lot faster, the way the water foils between the two side fins produce a hell of a lot of drive. However when going for a big bottom or top turn it doesn't hold rail as well as a tri fin (not sure how this would relate to behind a boat because of it being a much smaller/slower/fatter wave). Its very skatie, and really easy to blow the tail out of the water. Airs and quick snaps also seem to be easier to pull with a quad.

Not sure what type of fin system you have, but I have ridden them all and will only surf Future Fins...well that's because I know a few people that work there and usually get a set everytime I go visit. They also have the lightest boxes and now have the truss system in the fins that help reduce even more weight. You want a light fin due to the small wave, but also a fin that will produce a looser feeling to help with the stiff board mentioned above. The carbon fiber fins are going to be light, but stiffen the board even more. The fiberglass are heavy I wouldn't recommend them. The honey comb are going to be light and assist in loosening the board. The newest design the black sticks are by far my favorite design, I surf these in most of my board with a flexible composite or fiberglass fin in the rear. The smaller the template will also help with a looser feeling, where the larger fins will help with driving down the line. I love their Vector 1 design, the Vector II would really sux behind a boat. Also those with the bling and a tri fin, the hatchet is kinda fun to mess with.

The smaller the trailer fins the looser the board will feel. Surfing behind a boat you can easily dial it in since the wake (wave) is the same every time and really never ending. I know most of the surf shops let you demo fins, not sure if wakeboard shops are picking that up yet.

Sorry for the long rant...hope I confused you all.
