    New Tige owner

    Hey everyone,

I am a new Tige owner of a 2008 22ve. This is the first wakeboard boat I have owned. I currently live in Oklahoma, so all my boat touches is fresh water. I am in the Air Force and plan on returning home to Charleston, SC. My question is, is it ok to use my Tige in salt water or do I need to do something to it first? I have heard there is some type of filter system. Just wondering and thanks for the help.

    salt water

    Eaglites2005:

Thanks and much appreciation for serving in the Air Force - I am thankful for your contribution and sacrifice.

I presume u trailer the boat. I expect you will get lots of input in this forum with more detail. I am also new to inboards this yr but had stern drive boats for 20 yrs and know you will want to drain and flush the saltwater.

A device called "fake-a-lake" can be used to flush w freash water when you get home w garden hose. I know West marine has them and maybe $20. It goes voer the cooling water intake on the bottom of the boat. You turn on the garden hose, fire-up then engine and run for 5-8 mins and ll set.

I have seeen in other places on this website about flush attachments inside but those might be tricky-perhaps talk to a dealer.

There are also drains inside the engine space but others need to provide that input or ask the dealer as well.

These are simple to do and would keep the engine on better shape.

    Good Luck

    Jim

Welcome to the site. and congratulations on your new boat. The first thing everyone will want is some pictures of the new craft.

I agree with Jim, thanks for your serving our country! I have a Brother-in-Law that is a LT. Col. in the Air Force.

You will find a lot of info about boating from this site.

If I were going to run my boat in salt water, I would want a closed loop system. They say the engines are marinized, but I would still not do it. Thats is just my opinion. There are others that use their boats in salt water and may have a different opinion. Until then, I found a website that explains the difference between the two cooling system types.

In addition to the boat, make sure you rinse the trailer as well with lots of fresh water after getting home to help delay the onset of corrosion.

My son is also in the Air Force, stationed now at Vandenburg AFB, will be sent to the Middle East in January.

        Be well-

Welcome and and thanks for serving. Being a former Marine myself, I also thank you for your service.

As for salt water, there are quit a few people that run their Tiges in salt water. The majority of them are in Florida and I am sure they will post a lot of stuff for you. ChpThrill (another member here) will also be able to tell you more about the NC area.

Which brand of boat trailer do you have? IMO, I would be more concerned about the salt water and what it will do to the trailer. The boat with regular flushings should hold up well.

Congrats on the new boat, and welcome to the site! Let me know when you get to Charleston, since CP# left the area, I think I'm the only one here!

I run my boat almost exclusively in salt water, and because of this had the fresh water cooling system installed as insurance before I brought the boat home. I flush it after each outing as well. I also opted for an aluminum trailer, and rinse it well after each use too.

Thanks for your service to our country!!!!

Thanks for the help everyone. One question though. Everyone says post a picture, is there somewhere specific I should post it? As far as Weil Thing, I will be there sometime this summer. I use to wakeboard on the Ashley all the time. I sure miss Charleston and that nice water.

Welcome to the forums,You must be the guy with the orange 22ve.Little word of advice, the river that feeds lake altus picks up a bunch of jipsum(the stuff found in drywall). It sticks to your boat and will burn into your fiberglass leaving white water spots that won't come off.Taking care in wiping your boat clean when you pull out helps alot.
