Yea to put the 4L80E behind the dmax would be the dumbest thing Detroit ever did, and that is no easy task.

The Allison fits with body lift or lots of cutting around bell housing, the aftermarket burbs with dmax/Allison do body lifts mostly.
I dunno why GM never made that setup to complete with the Excursion, seems like it would sell, but then again I don't know why Ford quit making those too .........so what do I know.

I order to keep from grenading the the 4L80E trans, these 2 engines would have to be de-tuned to a point of not being much better then the current engine choice. The other option would be to build a new chassis for the Burb with tall frame rails like the 3/4 and 1 ton trucks. I guess it was not cost effective.

On topic, any fullsize SUV will tow any wakeboard boat smaller then an X-80 without a problem. The longer wheelbase models are always better for stability while towing plus the short wheelbase Tahoe/Yukon/Slade have "0" room if you have the third row seat in.

Go look at Nissan Armadas, that what we use to pull and weve had Diesel trucks before too... Honestly I think the Armada pulls better than any Diesel weve had!!! but it gets 12mpg...

Did I mention It can do 140+++++ too . But anyways yeah you dont even know our 2100v is back there. Even if I forget to drain 1500lbs of ballast.

um, what Diesel did you have before? I have an 8.1L Burban that pulls very well but my buddies Durmax beats our burban hands down........there is no contest

I sure would think at about the time Romo posted yesterday he would have been playing, also he isn't worried about money and wouldn't be buying an '08. Oh here he is...guess he was thinking about this Escalade and not T.O. standing in the enzone wide open.

              thanks tige owners
my mom paid that much for an 09 brand new loaded out the door.

Your getting screwed on the escalade. Get it lower or get a newer one.

Is that the premium lade or the basic one. Both come loaded, but one has a few more options. My mom did not get the premium one. So if it's the premium one then it may be an ok deal.

Is there a consensus on an ideal SUV tow vehicle (tow capacity, room, style, mpg)? Or like in most things, each has tradeoffs?

I ask because I need to buy an SUV in the next several months to pull an RZ2. Leaning toward an escalade but more for the styling.

IMHO the Escalade is a blinged out Suburban, over the top for my taste....I personally prefer the look of the new Suburban's over the Bling. If you 'need' the 6.0L or AWD, then get a Yukon XL Denali......

I pretty much deliver boats and boat for a living, we currently own some 350's, 450's (for the real big ones) and many others in the past and my 07 Armada was the finest vehicle and tow vehicle (even with very big wheels) for 22'-26' boats I have ever had. The Escalade was the worst by far... the stable track thing was a nightmare and caused many white nuckles over the year we had it.

I vote for Armada or Infinity version if you want more blinge. Although I would have to swap the grill out, personally I do not care for the front end of the QX56. Anyhow, I have a Titan and almost identical drive train and it is the best towing 1/2 ton thing I have owned, very stable and tons of torque. I bet new Sequoia is good too since it same DT as new Tundra (I think). You outta be able to practically steal one off a lot because they are selling zero.

Here's a third vote for the titan/armada platform. I would like to think the new sequoia would be a great alternative. It looks like toyota got the crankshaft issues figured out with the new 5.7 liter v-8. I just bought my titan for christmas last year and haven't been happier, it replaced a silverado z-71. Good luck, let us know what you end up with.

The other reason to get the Denali/Escalade is the 6 speed transmission. The 3/4 ton Yukon/Suburban also have the 6 speed but I believe the 1/2 tons still have the 4 speed. It's also the 6.2L now, not the 6.0L.
