hate to say it guys, but chains are strong, but they do not flex.
That boat comes flying forward that chain is going to snap everytime. an oh chit chain will do zero for a boat going from a stop to moving. Just won't matter. You would have to get a huge chain to handle the pressure.Originally posted by G-MONEYIt hurts me to say it but go OU but only for this weekend!!!!

If the chain didn't break you would tear the lifting eye out of the front with the forces involved in much of a mph stop to zero. Or the trailier post would break, in anycase it's not going to end pretty. Leave space to stop and pay attention!!! I still advise tie downs at the rear to stop bouncing and boat shift. My dad always said "Stupid Hurts". He's yet to be proven wrong, but for some reason I keep trying.

I know a guy that is a DOT cop here in Florida and he said tie downs seem to help keep the boat centered when bouncing down the road, but in a wreck will rarely keep the boat on the trailer.Originally posted by Domsz06 View Posthate to say it guys, but chains are strong, but they do not flex.

Leave plenty of interval to stop, Pay attention to other drivers cutting you off when you are passed, and slow down a bit while trailering. 65-75 mph on the interstate and 60-65 on State Highways.
In many years of towing I have taken out a carport due to lack of attention, run off the road into open grass highway divider when semi decided my lane was nicer( I was surprised the I did not hit any center divider reflective poles when i went into center divider.)This incident resulted in a tow vehicle with a higher GVWR and disc brakes on trailer.
The look of shock on peoples faces when I was passing them in the grassy center divider was mainlyunnerving Once I got the Van and trailer stopped, I sat there for a spell to calm down and quit shaking..
To not follow too close no matter what the speed. When following too close I got the bumper of the car in front of me but did not have enough momentum to do any damage.( Was in bumper to bumper traffic jam.)Last edited by MoneyPity; 11-18-2008, 06:31 PM.

Point in case, seatbelts in cars didnt stop you from eating dash, but did prevent worse injuries or death. A properly secured boat would lose most of it's forward momentum when/if the straps and/or chain broke. Boat may come off trailer, but would not travel that kind of distance.
Point being, even if your tied down correctly, and all your gear is rated well something will still break. Whether it rips the back end of the trailer off or the eye hooks out of your hull thats thing is coming. And even if it did manage stay stay seated on the trailer you still have 6000lbs+ driving into your cars chassis.
