    Woo Hoo! [OT]

I know this is off topic, but I am bouncing off of the walls. About 5 years ago I applied for a patent for a process I developed for a company I helped found and develop. The patent description is:

"A method and system for Distributed Image Processing and Storage"

Well, over the last several years, it has been long periods of time not hearing, then a lawyer says we need more info, then back again, and forth....

I found out today we have been granted the patent. I can't believe it, I had put it out of my mind, but it came through. I am floating right now, had to share.

Interesting since we are using software similar to your patent. However, the immedicate difference that I see is that the images are stored in TIFF format and in it's own file format created by this software vendor.

              Congratulations...

The key to the patent, is the "Distributed Image Processing" part. This means you have images in some software, and then the software doesn't just upload the images as is. The software prepares the images before uploading to save time and bandwidth and server processing time. Lots of apps now do this. I am trying not to get too excited about it.

                  hahaha

I think the software we have might infringe upon your patent. I am glad we bought it from another company.

Y, I am sure the lawyers are going to be searching out infringement. As I understand, you don't count infringement from the date the patent is awarded, but when it was invented. And the person infringing can only escape if they prove they were doing this before we were, and invented it.

If that is the case, the company was founded in 1992.. Not sure when they created the software.. Well, I guess we shall see.

Definitely not trying to make light of this. I can see a huge issue with this and various other companies that have document/scanning/database needs.

However, I am glad that you got it... It is not easy getting patents

No, I am not that worried about it. I don't work for the company but have purchased software from them. That is between the lawyers and the company.

But, we only went out and purchased the software because it was easier to purchase it than create it... I am a one person programming shop.
