    Carbon Handle Pros/Cons

Anyone here using a carbon handle im thinking about getting one. I was just wondering about the pros and cons. Whats good about whats bad help me out! Thanks

There have been a lot of bad things said about the handle, and I personally did not like It very much either.

    Cons:

-If you drop the handle and It hits your board, alot of times the carbon fiber will cheap or ever your board.

-The grip has been said to be very slippery.

-The handle has been said not to last very long.

    Pros:

    -It is light.

-Some people think It makes handle passes easier.

    ------------------------------------------------------------------------

If your looking for handles, I'd take a look at the Accurate Temet handle. It is stiff like the carbon fiber, but It is soft, so basically It is almost the same as the carbon fiber handle, except It's soft, and probably wont chip or break easily. Also, the grip is alot thicker and more supportive.

You can see the shape is similar, except one is the foamy material and one is carbon fiber, I'd go with the Murray (Temet) Handle.

        Carbon Fiber...

If you can, I'd go to the place your buying from, and just get a feel for both, and even other handles, there are so many, I guess It's personal preference like boards, boats, etc...

I personally dont like them for the reasons David stated above, there is no advantage to using them. I tend to throw my handle around to wether it be in the water or in the boat so you could imagine a hard handle hitting something or someone.

I just got a Straight Line, I got a good deal on it. However I have not used it yet. I'm looking forward to it.
I'm on a boat man. I got my flippy floppies....

We have the one pictured in Davids post.

I'll never go back to anything else.
Gloveless, carbon handles are " Da Kine".

Man o man did I ever get tired of dealing with the expense and hassle of ski gloves,, and cheap handles.

carbon/gloveless,, the only way to fly.

FlyingTiger - Just curious, have you had any problems with It as far as dents or scratches or anything?

Where the tow rode attaches to the handle,, the little grommet won't stay attached and it's function is to cut down on wear on the rope.
I think a little silicone sealer type glue should remedy that.
The super thin ropes are easy to knot,, hard to unknot.

We're pretty good in taking care of our stuff so it's held up well.

I believe we paid almost $200+ for the handle and rope,, and that's a big drink of water, I hope to not have that expense again for awhile.

I bought a Vortex Carbon by Straightline early this past summer. The handle is very light, which is nice. But, after only one summer the grip is already starting to peel. I also agree with the others that the handle feels a little slippery. The rope is really stiff but tends to tangle easy so you have to be careful with it. Overall, I would not say it's worth the $119 price tag, especially since it's coming apart after only one season of weekend riding.

Sorry to get off topic...But, Tip, Send It to Hyperlite over the winter If you don't ride year round (or send It anytime), and they will replace It for free, usually with a newer model If It is into another year.

In response to Tip's post... I havent had any problems with the grip coming off (same SL kamen Vortex), but the SOB chips like you wouldnt believe. I've had it hit my board a couple of times, and even my toe (YEEEEEOOOWWW!). However, I do like the way the rigid triangle frame feels.
