Viva the 7.3! I got 13 round trip up to Powell from Phoenix. Total GVW was close to 16,000 lbs and I had a 21 cubic foot cargo box on the top. There is also a 6000 ft elevation change coming from Phoenix.

I just wish I had an extra gear in the transmission.

Yea, those diesels really crank with some tweaks but you gotta watch the EGTs and personalty I would not tweak a newer ford, they are not as tough as the d-maxs or older 7.3s. I had a buddy that made that was crazy fast rocket and I was shocked how good it ran......till it blew up. Not cheap and the data logger will void warranty. Tons of info on some of the big diesel sites.

Nice! We had to go over the Continental Divide (Eisenhower Tunnel) and Vail Pass (both 12,000' +) I will say one thing, impressive power! Pulled the boat up Eisenhower pass at 70 mph without a problem! I've owned trucks that couldn't even get up to 70 on those hills let alone pull something at that speed.

my duramax gets 13+ mpg towing and averages around 18 to 19 on the highway. I've hit over 20mpg if I keep it around 65mph. its a 2007 4 wheel drive crew cab.

amen to the 7.3. I was towing 5 tons at 90 on I-70 up through the tunnel and it never dropped out of overdrive. I just wish it had another gear. It will get 20 mpg at 65 mph. On diesels it's all about the sweet spot on rpm's. Mine is 1800 rpm's. If I keep it at those rpm's while towing I get 15 mpg. But really we buy these trucks for fun. If you want mpg buy a ranger. The new diesels will never get great mpg due to the new government restrictions on both the fuel and the trucks.

I'm on my second 6.0L and have loved both of them, never any problems with head bolts. Both trucks have had intake, turbo back exhaust, edge 5 stage chip, and banks intercooler. Tows my 21i with ease, and i average 15mpg doing 80+ on the highway back and forth to powell

the 6.0's are luck of the draw. My step bro has one and on his third comp. Brother has one and has gone through 16 injectors and a turbo and a comp. His friend dropped a valve in the piston. Another friend wasted his granny. Both were bone stock. I have a feeling theyjust got bad rigs. I love your ride and hope it treats u rite!! :to:

Man if the CHP catches you that will cost you a fortune. Be careful.

yeah... no chit. I guess a wipe out at 60 is not really much different than 80.

Reason why I set the cruise control at 55 and let the Expedition keep me at that speed. I am not going to get a ticket this way.

so far I've been ticket free.....radar detector and going with the flow of traffic helps.
