The problem is before all this started you couldn't touch a boat for less than retail and now the people selling boats are taking a major loss.No boats under retail anywhere ever. That was the case before this happened and those where the pretenses for my boat purchase.
However I did buy a powerstroke ford at about a quarter what it was worth so I feel a little better about the ordeal.

What are the insurance requirements for that? What is the tax liabillity, are you going to be a sole prop, LLC, partnership....etc?

That boat is less then my 06 was that I bought in 3/06 and is comparably optioned plus ballast and vision-air chair.

I would love to jump on a deal like that, but would loose it on the trade/sale of current boat and the savings would wash.

I am not even looking at boat costs right now. I waited 8 years to get a new boat. I pulled the trigger in May 2008. I have enough invested where I am not upside down but am planning on keeping this boat for 8 years also.
If its not fun, Why do it?

I'm not upside down YET, but in the Spring, I had about 10k equity in the boat, it's all but gone. As as salesman, if I traded my boat in, I would probably give myself about 10k less then book, in order to have room to sell it for a profit. It would be a small profit to prevent sitting on it too long

I a nutshell, i've lost 20k Damn good thing I love this boat and planned on keeping it for a long time from the beginning.

I have to find out more information. I am not going to do it myself and would rather have a boat rental company deal with the costomers. So, I will have to get back with you on this.

I agree on that. The $49k range is only a couple thousand less than what an RZ2 would cost from that same year.

Luckily, we paid cash for our boat--I couldn't care less what it's "value" is. We considered buying a new boat this year, but this boat is serving the purpose just fine, we couldn't make ourselves pull the trigger on adding another monthly payment to our lives. If this economy gets any worse and an '09 RZ4 jumps up at a stupid low price though.......definitely maybe!
Other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how was the play?
