Bent you have run 5K of ballast?! Reminds me of the saying "We're going to try and sink the boat if that fails, we'll surf it". You're a wild man!

only on a few occasions, this is total weight with peeps, gear and ballast. This is just a guestimate, hard to add the weight of peeps, gear and beer. I would never do this with my family or kids aboard. We were just trying to see what it would do to the wave. I will tell what it did do, there was a crisp lip all the way across the wave and the pocket was forever long and easily 4' tall. If I remember right, the wave would wash out at 11 mph. We had to run about 12-13 mph. Def was pushin the ol girl to the limit. Funny thing is, the only ballast visible were the cubes and peeps. You could visually see the fuel gage dropping as we surfed. HA

          factory system full: 900#
enzo sac full as you can get: 1200# port side
enzo sac half full on starboard: 700# starboard
          3 fly-high cubes in bow: 465#
          8 people(5 dudes, 3 ladies):1300#
          gear& beer: 200#

sd, wasnt it you talking about one of the best waves you had ever seen was when there were 12+ peeps aboard?

            ragboy,

He's right about faster time to plane, especially for a heavily weighted boat. Any time you down pitch, that's going to happen. It also helps your speed control work better because it will be more responsive at slower speeds. As for fuel efficiency, what he says is only true if you do a lot of starting and stopping. I recently started taking out a more advanced wakeboard ride crew where the riders don't fall as often and you will actually burn more fuel in that scenario because you're average speed (including time spent picking up riders and restarting) is much higher. So, it's all a trade-off.

Generally, the rule of thumb is that a lower pitch prop (which is that second number) will cause you to get a better hole shot, but also cause you to run at higher RPMs at cruising speed (20+ Mph). For wakesurfing, the lower pitch prop is definitely better because it provides faster times to wakesurf speeds and more precise control maintaining that speed. If you're wakeboarding (we average about 23 Mph between our various riders) most of the time, you may consider more pitch to be able to run more efficiently at wakeboard speeds.

y, I understand how pitch works and the benefit, but I wasn't aware of a 1" bigger diameter prop, and exactly what that did.

I used to have this cool stainless prop on my IO 2 boats ago. It actually shifted. from 16 pitch to 19 pitch. It was like driving my old 2 speed 1968 Nova. You felt it shift too, it was pretty cool.

OK, so time to update this. My dad and I made a template from wood, with the new shape, but this time matching the radius of the back of the boat.

Here is the old template, I don't have pictures of the new.

Anyway, we took it to a metals place, and we have orders a 3/4" thick pc of aluminum to be cnc'd to spec. I have also purchased the gator grip to go on top. So I am replacing my old swimstep with this new shape.

It weighs 150 lbs by itself. Some ballast right there, all the way in the back. I went with 3/4" to be very sturdy, and also because I wanted the bottom to be PERFECTLY smooth, so no ribs or anything for strength.

I am supposed to get the metal back tomorrow, we are going to route the edges to make smooth, then install. Should be interesting. Then we will test it. I will take pictures and put up here when I get them.

You should take it to a truck bed liner place and have it sprayed with that. They can spray it to cover exactly what area you want covered and it will not come apart like the gator grip can if the board fins or something gets dragged across it.

y, but the gator grip is very soft. I can't tell you how many times those black é's were pressed into flesh. The great thing, is it is aluminum. So if I don't like the grip, I can strip and try something else.

Thanks for the update. Where did you get the gator grip?

                          True won't argue that.

Go to Seadek and get a custom one, your design and colors scheme. Ultra cush and holds up to boards well so far.

Very nice, I just might do that. The navy blue gator grip, looks too light with all the white in it. I may switch to black, or try the custom, looks nice.
