Thoughts and Opinions on Shrink wrapping

What are folks thoughts on shrink wrapping for the winter. I am most concerned with mold... but do the benefits outweigh the risks?

I really know nothing about it .....................my cousin in Connecticut does shrinkwrap his 30 foot cabin cruiser, never had any problems

I have read that you need to put de humidifying things in there

I actually read it on Bucrew. This guy was whining because he didnt either and opened it up and was all moldy.

Actually I cant find where i read that but i would bet its a good idea to keep something in there to lower the moisture.

Damp rid in buckets or the kind you hang in closets should do the trick, I put them under my boat cover when it will be on for more than a month

Ok, in order to reduce the possibility of Mold, shrink wrap it as dry as possible and leave some kind of dehumidifier.

Its supposed to be really good if you are going to leave it outside.

Good thread j - - seems like every boat here in Annapolis gets shrink wrapped. I did not wrap mine last year and did not have any issues at all. I took all my seats cushions out and put the cover on extra snuggly. Not sure if I will shrink it this year or not. Probably not.

Hmmm... got me to thinking that I may not actually need it.

Mine is outdoors though albeit mostly under an oak tree so it is pretty well protected.

You can actually buy what you need from www.Uline.com and do it yourself. You can get a huge roll that will last for several years or go in on it with a friend. Waaaaay cheaper this way. My neighbor helps his boss do his giant yacht every year and says it's super easy. Personally, I think heated indoor storage is easier....

Unfortunately I do not have access to heated indoor storage that is reasonable.

A double burner propane gun. They actually sell those as well but their mark up is stupid. Go to Farm-n-Fleet or something to get a burner. You can also use a decent electric heat gun, which is probably the safer bet.
